Background
The college is the tallest building in the citadel, its primary towers standing well over 150ft tall, but despite its prominence very few outsiders know what occurs within its walls. Only the most gifted pupils from the empire are accepted to join, and the school guards its knowledge carefully. Most teaching is actually done outside the walls, as real-world experience is paramount to learning, but the four towers are the home of their collected wisdom.
This release also includes an original track by Boy King of Idaho. More information about them below

Design Notes

Mage’s College 01 – Assembly Hall
- 01 – Entrance Lobby – The Mage’s College can only be entered by invitation. This is not just a requirement of social etiquette, but is enforced with magic. Anyone entering the lobby, or any part of the college, without permission from one of the senior staff is forcibly removed through arcane means. That includes those trying to arrive via the teleportation circle here.
- 02 – Courtyard – A statue of a winged arcane warrior dominates the centre of the courtyard, looking upwards. This symbolises the never-ending fight for greater power, knowledge and ascension, an ethos encouraged by the school. A series of floating orbs, glowing with arcane light, meander around the courtyard, occasionally seeming to follow those who walk through.
- 03 – Dormitory Towers – These smaller towers are where the staff and pupils live while they are within the college grounds. The lower floor has a few small rooms for the staff that are both bedroom and study, although it is expected that little time will be spent here. A central glowing platform allows students to ascend the tower to the upper floors (15) through telepathic levitation.
- 04 – Outer Corridors
- 05 – Tower of Knowledge Entrance – The primary entrance to access the colleges main facilities. Stairs go up to 10. The stairs appear regular and ordinary in their construction, but they somehow allow the 50ft ascension to the next floor to be made in only a dozen or so steps. Those new to the college often report a dropping feeling in their stomach when climbing these stairs for the first time.
- 06 – Assembly Hall – This space is most often used for practicing lower magics, but its primary function is to act as a hall of assembly when the entire school gathers together. If the college is ever under attack, the arcane seals can be activated to repel invaders and protect its members.
- 07 – Dining Hall – Something of an afterthought in the buildings design. It is generally assumed students and staff will eat at their desk while they work when in the school.
- 08 – Toilets – Mainly for visitors. Staff and students all have chamber pots in their rooms for efficiency.
- 09 – Kitchen – As well as cooking all of the food for the in-house staff and students, the kitchens prepare provisions and supplies for those travelling beyond the school grounds.
Mage’s College 02 – Library
- 10 – Library – The repository of almost all of the school’s knowledge, as well as many writings gathered from around the world by its members. The bookshelves reach all the way up to the rooms 50ft high ceiling
Very few outsiders have ever been allowed to view these works, and even the students can only do so under supervision.
The same wandering globes from the courtyard also hover around the library, moving close to those who enter. Perhaps it is to offer light to read, or maybe they are keeping an eye on what is being read and by whom. - 11 – Stairs up to 17. The stairs are similarly enchanted to those leading up to the library.
- 12 – Alchemical Classroom – For teaching the correct mixing of potions and alchemical concoctions used in magic.
- 13 – Lecture Hall – First year lectures are carried out here, to prepare students for their lessons outside the school.
- 14 – Gallery – This suspended outdoor walkway looks down onto the courtyard
- 15 – Dormitories – These small shared rooms are where the students sleep. Each student gets their own bed, writing desk and chest for belongings. Nothing else is needed except a passion for learning.
It is not known how many dormitory levels there are within the towers as a new one appears whenever it is needed, despite the tower never getting any taller. The different levels are accessed using the central levitation panel that terminates at the ground floor (03) and ramparts (20) - 16 – Reading Room – This area is for staff only. As well as providing a space away from the students for study and preparation, it houses the schools most valuable or dangerous books and artifacts that are not appropriate for students or occasional visitors.
Mage’s College 03 – Arena
- 17 – Landing – Stairs down to 10(hidden) and up to 18
- 18 – Arena – This space is used to practice combat magic, and also to test pupils abilities. Deaths are rare, but not unheard of.
- 19 – Ramparts – Affords great views over the entire city and beyond. Stars lead down to 14
- 20 – Shutter Hatch – Upper access to the dormitories (15)
- 21 – The Observatory – An enormous brass telescope mounted on a system of gears. Allows study of the observable universe. It is believed that certain conjunctions and aligning of stars and planets create a temporary heightening of arcane abilities.
