Background

Around the central lake in the deadly, frostbitten region known as ‘The Shards’, is an almost circular wall of rocky cliff. The lake itself is believed to be a crater formed during an ancient battle between the Dragons and Jotun who used to roam this part of the world, long since filled in and iced over. A once mighty waterfall leads into the lake on the western side, but it too is completely frozen, and deep snow drifts have settled on top.

Hidden behind these mounds of snow and ice, tunnels lead into the rock itself and further into a series of caves and warrens that slowly weave their way under and into the ice of the lake. In amongst these tunnels lives a small group of icy white kobolds, sheltering from the storm outside in their hide tents. Why they would choose to love in such a harsh environment only becomes clear when exploring deeper in (if the kobolds will let you!)

On top of a ledge, in cave that shimmers with blue light from the ice walls, sits a single white dragon egg. The kobolds worship the dragons that are still frozen mid battle in the centre of the lake, and it seems they believe this egg is theirs. For generations they have watched over it and protected it, waiting for the day it will hatch and free its kin from the ice.

Frozen Waterfall 01 – Waterfall

• 01 – Waterfall – Frozen over and covered in snow. 2 small opening hidden behind it lead to 06
• 02 – Frozen Lake – Leads to Czepeku’s map
• 03 – Southern Cliff – Leads to Misjay’s map
• 04 – Frozen River – Leads to Fantasy Atlas’ map
• 05 – Northern Cliff – Leads to The Crafty Dice’s map

Frozen Waterfall 02 – Ice Caverns

• 06 – Tunnel Entrance – Leads to 01
• 07 – Rock Cave – Some water drips down from the river above forming a small pool of icy cold water
• 08 – Rocky Steps – Steep ledges lead down to 09 
• 09 – The Warrens – A series of hide tents and small fires. This is where the kobolds live. It stinks.
• 10 – Storage – Poorly made cages house some small creatures. They might be pets, they might be dinner. There also seem to be a number of humanoid bones.
• 11 – Ice Cave – Most of the walls and ceiling are ice, presumably part of the lake above. Two old dragon skulls flank a large egg on a nest of ice. A high wall on the southern end seems to lead further in.
• 12 – Treasure Hoard – In preparation for the dragons return, the kobolds have started a ‘treasure hoard’ for them, but due to the lack of visitors in the area, and their own meagre power, there is little here of value.
• 13 – Beyond – This tunnel seems to head into darkness. Leads to Misjay’s map, deeper caverns, or a return to the surface.
