Background

Near the peak of the snow covered mountain, behind a pair of solid iron doors, is the former lair of a group of mind flayers. They are long since gone, whether dead or simply elsewhere no one knows, but a series of new structures have been added in recent years. A group of scientists, mages and artificers discovered the lair and are attempting to use the knowledge found there to create artificial human clones. 

The lab is accessible only by airship, or those mad enough to brave the frequent blizzards to attempt the climb. The scientists have been stealing people from nearby settlements to perform their experiments on, but so far have succeeded only in creating monstrosities, warped humanoids that exist in constant agony. Unknown to all, the answer to their questions currently lies in a lost chamber below the lab, where one of the former inhabitants still sleeps.

Cloning Lab 01 – Landing Platform

• 01 – Airship Landing Pad

Cloning Lab 02 – Elder Brain Pool

• 09 – Stairs up to 08, down to 19
• 10 – Sanitation Airlock – Only one of the two sets of doors can be open at a time, both need the key held only by the foreman (07) or head scientist (22). Trap triggers if unknown entities are detected.
• 11 – Dormitories – Sleeping areas for the guards and scientists when off duty. Rooms used in rotation for 3 shifts of 8 hours each.
• 12 – Mess hall – Dining area for staff. Pantry includes a freezer with some rather suspect looking items.
• 13 – Executive Bedroom – The head scientists living quarters. Secret door lead to 14
• 14 – Secret Corridor – Leads to 15
• 15 – Elder Brain Pool – Previously housed the elder brain. Scientists are trying to reverse engineer the connected tanks and vats to perfect their cloning.
• 16 – Observation Room – Tests carried out in 15 are observed and recorded from here.
• 17 – Locker Room – All scientist personal belongings are kept here during testing.
• 18 – Stairs down to 20

Cloning Lab 03 – Testing Labs

• 19 – Guard Room, Stairs up to 09
• 20 – Experimentation Chamber – Test subjects are hooked up to the cloning devices for experimentation. So far none have succeeded and all subjects have died.
• 21 – Operation Rooms – Live test subjects are observed before experimentation. Deceased subjects undergo a post-mortem to try to discover what went wrong.
• 22 – Head Scientists Office – Secret door leads to 23
• 23 – Ancient Artifacts – When the chambers were initially discovered, a number of unidentified artifacts were recovered. A few are kept here as part of the Head Scientists personal collection
• 24 – Prison Cells – Tests subjects are kept here. In one cell it seems a prisoner went insane and attempted to dig out through the rock using their bare hands. In fact they were enthralled by Drynn and were attempting to reach his lost chamber.
• 25 – Failed Tests – Rows of Cloning Vats filled with horribly disfigured and mutated experiments gone wrong. It seems some are still alive. Be careful not to accidentally release them, they don’t look friendly.
• 26 – Library – Filled with a lot of texts recovered from the Mind Flayers, as well as many of the scientist’s own collections. Secret door leads to 27
• 27 – Lost Tunnel – It seems even the scientists are unaware of this area. Leads to 30
• 28 – Grand Orrery – Used by the Mind Flayers to keep track of their location in space. Aligning the mechanism correctly opens the secret door leading to 29
• 29 – Portal – A portal used by the Mind Flayers. Unknown to the scientists.

Cloning Lab 04 – Drynn’s Chamber

• 30 – Drynn’s Chamber – Lost beneath the mountain is the resting chamber of Drynn, creator of the Mind Flayers and many other aberrations. He sleeps within, waiting for the planets to align so he can awaken from his slumber at the correct time. Drynns influence has turned the rock into some semblance of a living organism. The floor and walls feel almost fleshy and the chamber seems to breathe.
