Hello Travellers!

This weeks map is the first of our 'Imperator' Tier commissions. The Cultists Temple is based on the 'Temple of the Ebon Hand' from Monte Cook's 'Ptolus: City by the Spire'.

A seemingly harmless sect worships in the Temple above, but the local Guard Captain believes there may be connections to cult activity. As the party explores the temple, they will find a haphazardly furnished backroom concealing a trapdoor that leads to the tunnels and rooms below.

Will they attempt to sneak through, making their way past the common room, guards barracks  and torture chambers to find the proof they need, or will they attempt to convince the high priest that they wish to join the cult and be led to the Chaos Maze beyond to face their innermost fears. If they get caught, either in a lie or just in the wrong place, they may be taken to the Ritual Chamber and be forced to undergo 'the Changing'.

Use the link at the top of this post to download the day and night variants of the map in Print and/or VTT format.

Good question, I don't remember but it was probably an aesthetic decision so it was visible on the map. Black would have been pretty hidden.

What an awesome map. Fits perfectly with my current campaign. One quick question: Is there a reason you went with a white hand inside the circle at the entrance, as opposed to a black one?

Adam Kirkby

I could include a version with a dark background as well if people are interested. The white background was a request as the commission was for a printable map, so having a white background reduces the amount of ink required.

Tom Cartos

Awesome dungeon map - have you considered a version with a dark grey background instead of white? I find the contrast to be a bit bright on the eyes?

Hi Bewby, thanks for the suggestion. I'll do that in the future!

Tom Cartos

Hi Bewby, thanks for the suggestion. I'll do that in the future!

Tom Cartos

Any chance that you could separate the VTT and the Print versions into two separate download links OR create a VTT folder and a PRINT folder at in the root directory of the .zip in the future? I only ever need one or the other, not both, and I'd appreciate just being able to download the option of choice with a click, rather than having to download two archives named Day_VTT and Night_VTT, then creating a new folder named Cultist Temple VTT, for example.

You are very welcome! I hope you have fun with it.

Tom Cartos

wow...i need to find a way to use this immediately! thank you

Haha thanks very much David! I always aim to provide inspiration, both to DMs and to Players. I think being able to be truly immersed in a TTRPG is an amazing thing, and I do my best to help with that.

Tom Cartos

I love that you not only make gorgeous and functional maps that are easy to parse visually, but also make sure there's something interesting to interact with in most rooms in case combat breaks out - no boring fighting in blank 20' by 20' spaces. Like that iron maiden room - you just KNOW someone's getting shoved inside!

David Hayward

Thanks so much Anarett! The bath is in the high priests private bedroom, so I imagined he would be able to fill and heat it magically. For the other rooms, they might need to bring it down by hand, or maybe tap into an underwater river or well as you suggested.

Tom Cartos

An amazing temple! The stairs are nice, and there are so many details everywhere. And all the light sources! So many lamps, and torches, and candles - such an excellent environment for a stealthy approach! Is there a source of water at hand? I see a bath in one of the rooms at the lower level, and it would be difficult to fill it without a well or a river nearby.

Hi Wojciech. Thanks very much! I have a few maps planned that are similar to those you are suggesting, sewers and prison dungeons especially are on the list for the 'Big City' theme. I try to make sure my maps are not too specific, although this one was for a Patron commission so had a more focussed adventure in mind. If you like, you can always check out my $2 tier. I include unfurnished version of the maps along with asset packs, so you can re lay out the interior furnishing to suit your own needs.

Tom Cartos

Your maps are great! I'm using them whenever they fit and they are perfect! But maybe more generic maps? Urban ones, like city/town buildings, maybe some sewers/dungeons (like prison dungeons), bandit hideouts? Just some suggestions. Anyway, thanks for delivering quality maps!

Hey Thanks Bondulance! This one was a lot of fun, quite different from my normal style and a bit more 'classic D&D', but I think I will do more like this in the future.

Tom Cartos

Gotta hand it to ya Tom, this is by far my most favorite map from you.
