2026-01-31 23:20:08 +0000 UTCFun anecdote about the renewal of the VRA in 2006: my dad took me on my first trip to NYC that year. He told me he’d found tickets to a show that was a benefit to raise money to advocate for VRA renewal. I said, okay cool. He said, it’s at the Apollo theater. I said, whoa nice. He said, it’s Stevie Wonder. I said holy fuck yes. My first show in NYC

2026-01-29 00:46:49 +0000 UTCI'm working on a federal voting literacy test for when we implement 13 Supreme Court justices, expand the senate to maybe 150 to better represent population realities and create a lobbying salary cap that would require companies who spend more than 10k in annual lobbying to suffer a 20% tax increase on every 10k over the initial 10k. The test would have questions like: Is Clarence Thomas A: white or B: Stupid, so that for conservatives to vote they'd have to humiliate themselves. Then, after the election was over, the results would be published and they'd say President Ilhan Omar got 90 percent of the vote and 97.3 percent believe Justce Kavanaugh is a rapist, while 2.7 believe he is a Boston Terrier.

2026-01-28 03:17:28 +0000 UTCFor anyone who wants to learn more about how white flight played out with some more nuance, definitely check out Race For Profit by Keeanga Yamahtta-Taylor or The Color of Money by Mehrsa Baradaran. (The Color of Law is more famous, but the writing sucks and Rothstein's analysis is superficial)

2026-01-27 23:34:53 +0000 UTCThere's so little for obvious cuts in these episodes that any time there is one I automatically assume Peter said something that couldn't be left in the final cut lol
