What Sisters Do

First dates were always nerve-racking, you were always stuck deciding things; what to wear, what to say, how to act, how to correctly use a soup spoon, etcetera. Was it inward or outward? Those were just a few of the many decisions and questions that ran through little Yulia’s mind as she picked out her outfit for her date with a boy she really liked. It took every muscle in her body to not thump her feet against the floor repeatedly out of nervousness when the fox boy asked her out. She had planned to ask him out herself, but she must have been taking a little too long and he became impatient. There was a ton of romantic tension between the two that was oh-so-obvious to everyone around them. Yulia had feelings for him, but she was unsure if those feelings were mutual. She did not want to fall head-over-heels for this boy, just to end up flat on her face. But with a date, time, and place set for them to spend time together, Yulia raced home as fast as she could to tell her big sister the good news.

After crashing through the door, and climbing up the stairs at an alarmingly fast speed, the bunny burst into her big sister’s room without knocking. “ALEX ALEX ALEX!!!!” she shouted, her feet thumping against the carpet in between her excited hops up and down. Yulia moved so quick that all Alex saw was a cream-colored blur zooming through her room and hopping up and down like a child with a post-trick-or-treating sugar rush. The tigress was in the middle of packing a bag for a trip to Cabo that her record label had arranged for her. She raised her brows at her sister as she dropped her bikinis and dresses into her suitcase. “What has you so excited, Yules? Can’t you see I’m in my underwear?” the tigress looked down at her cow-pattern bra and panties and let out a chuckle as she continued grabbing things to stuff into her luggage; underwear, more bikinis, oh, and sunscreen.

“HE ASKED ME OUT!!! HE ASKED ME OUT!!!” Yulia screamed. She continued to hop up and down, reinforcing the stereotypes that bunnies were known for. Every time she hopped up, her skirt lifted as she came back down and her shirt untucked itself from underneath it to reveal the lower buttons that she didn’t bother doing before she went to school that morning.

After tossing her second bottle of sunscreen into her luggage, Alex turned to look at her sister and put her hands on her hips. “Who asked you out?” she furrowed her brows. “I don’t know all the guys in your school Yulia. I graduated a few years ago, remember?”

“Blake!!! The one I told you about! You told me to ask him out because he was taking so long to ask me out!” Yulia finally stopped her hopping but she still thumped her foot against the floor excitedly. Her chest rose and fell as she caught her breath and her big, bright, and purple eyes stared at her sister.

“That fox boy? Took him long enough.” Alex smirked proudly as she turned to grab more of the clothing she had folded out on her bed and pack them into her suitcase. “When’s the date?” she asked.

“Tonight!!!!” Yulia replied. “8:30 PM, at Rosie’s.” The schoolgirl bunny clasped her hands together and started to do that shy girl twisting and turning thing with her body as she thought about the fox boy. Her mind went so far as to imagine them sharing a bowl of fancy overpriced spaghetti Lady and the Tramp style. Her cheeks flushed red as she daydreamed, but it was cut short when her sister interrupted her.

“Ooooh fancy.” The tigress nodded her head, surprised. Rosie’s wasn’t your run-of-the-mill restaurant; it was the most expensive one in town. This meant that this Blake guy had rich parents and was either very into Yulia or had ulterior motives. Rich kids didn’t have the best reputation in their town, so the worry bug took a small bite into Alex, but she wanted to be supportive. She had a crush on a bad-boy rich kid before, so stopping her sister before meeting him would have been hypocritical. “Well, you better get ready, then. It’s already 5:30. How are you going to get there?”

Yulia stepped closer to Alex, placed both hands on her bed, and leaned forward. “I was thinking… Since you were already headed to the airport, you could drive me?” She put on her best puppy-dog eyes and pursed her lips into a cute kissy face. Her little rabbit nose twitched and wiggled, too. She was pulling out all the stops. “It’s on the way! I checked on maps, it’ll only make you lose 3 minutes!” she quickly added before her sister could give her the stink-eye that she usually did whenever she asked her to drive her somewhere. It came right on cue; the tigress squinted her eyes at her sister and turned her head ever-so-slightly to the side. The Alex Stink Eye.

As much as her sisterly instinct wanted to tell her that she couldn’t give her a ride, Yulia made a great point. A few minutes of extra driving time wasn’t going to make her miss her flight. Plus, this way, she would be able to get a good look at the boy that was taking her little sister out to such a fancy-schmancy restaurant on the first date. Maybe find out his motives, or whether he really liked her sister or not. She would never admit it in front of Yulia, but her protective big sister instincts were kicking in. She felt like an Italian-American mobster whose sister was bringing back a non-Italian-American boyfriend to the family Christmas dinner. Her stink-eye slowly faded away and she nodded. “Alright, alright, I’ll take you. Just go get ready, wheels rollin’ at 7:45.”

“WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Yulia cheered as she dashed out of Alex’s room faster than when she barged in. “Thank you, thank you, thank you, Alex!” she thanked her sister as she dashed through the hallway and into her room to get ready. The volume of her voice decreased the further away she got and she went completely silent after she slammed her bedroom door shut.

Alex couldn’t help but chuckle and smile as her sister sped away with excitement that she remembered herself having when a boy she liked asked her out. “Let’s hope you aren’t a bad boy, Blake…” the tigress said to herself before she closed her suitcase and zipped it up.

Yulia spent most of her time choosing between two outfits that she had pulled out from her closet and laid out on her bed. One was a gorgeous cocktail dress that the rabbit only wore on special occasions, and the other was a cutesier dress with a little bit more layers and puffiness to it. She couldn’t choose, she wanted to impress her date and have his jaw drop as soon as he saw her, but she also didn’t want to overdress. She’d never been to Rosie’s before, so she didn’t know exactly how fancy of a place it was. Alex knew though, and when she came walking through Yulia’s bedroom to grab something from her bathroom, she stopped halfway and glanced at the selection.

The tigress immediately shook her head. “Oh, Yules, it’s a fancy restaurant, but it’s not a gala. You can dress chic.” Diverting off course, Alex approached her sister’s closet and started going through the different pieces of clothing her sister had to put together the perfect outfit for her. She picked out a red and black flannel dress, white thigh-high socks, and a pair of black ankle boots. She laid them out on the bed, stared at them, and scratched her chin. There was still something missing, but Alex couldn’t figure out what it was. Yulia stared at the outfit on her bed, too. “That looks a bit simple,” she shrugged.

There was a moment of awkward silence as Alex tried to figure out what was missing, but then, her eyes lit up as if a lightbulb turned on in her head. “I’ve got it. I’ll be right back!” she smirked and excitedly skipped her way out of Yulia’s bedroom. “Get in the shower!” she added just as she slipped through the doorway.

Once the tigress was out of her room, Yulia looked at the dresses she had put out on the bed that Alex said were too fancy and shook her head. “What were you thinking…” she said to herself. She then grabbed the dresses, put them back in her closet, and hopped into the shower.

---

“That’s perfect,” Alex said with a smile as she pulled out a belt from her closet. It was her coveted Gucci belt; a simple black belt with a large buckle in the shape of the iconic double “G”. She had never let Yulia borrow it before, so she knew that letting her do so would make her even happier. Just thinking about how her sister would react made her giggle. While she was in her closet, she pulled out a matching leather purse, too. Her sister was going to need a place to put her phone, the dress she was going to wear had no pockets. She slung the purse over her shoulder, grabbed two bottles of her perfume, and walked back to her sister’s room to finish up her date night prep.

Alex walked into Yulia’s room to see the door to her bathroom slightly ajar. She stepped toward it and peeked through the small slit to make sure her sister wasn’t indecent before she pushed the door open all the way. Once it was all the way open, Alex saw Yulia with a towel wrapped around her struggling to brush her hair in front of the mirror.

“Ugh! Why won’t the brush make my hair straight!” Yulia grumbled and waved the brush around in her hand out of frustration. Alex quickly stepped into the bathroom and put her hands on her sister’s shoulders. “Hey, hey, hey! Calm down, you’re using too much force, you’ll rip your hair out doing it like that. Here, let me help.” Alex put the belt and purse down on the floor and the two bottles of perfume she had brought over down on the sink.

“But we’re going to be late!!! You’ll miss your flight and it will all be my fault!” Yulia whined and stomped her feet like a child going through a hissy fit.

“Hey, hey, Yules, calm down. It’s barely 7. We have plenty of time.” Alex gave her shoulders a squeeze and looked at her sister through the mirror. She raised her brows and smiled. “I know I haven’t showered, but I will shower in Cabo anyway. I am not mingling with the execs there smelling like plane food.” Using her foot, Alex pulled the bathroom stool that the bunny used to reach the higher shelves in the bathroom over to place it behind her. With her hands on her shoulders, Alex turned her sister around and sat her down on the stool. Yulia’s eyes began to water and she sniffled a few times as she sat down. She was nervous and the thought of the date not going well was getting to her. Alex grabbed the hairbrush and started brushing her sister’s hair gently.

“What if he doesn’t like me?” Yulia asked, staring at her feet that dangled a few inches off the floor.

“Then he wouldn’t have asked you out,” the tigress replied. She placed one hand on top of Yulia’s head to keep her head still but also gave her a couple reassuring head pats with it. The brush moved down through Yulia’s shoulder-length hair, combing out any unflattering knots.

“What if it’s like Carrie? What if it’s all an elaborate prank to embarrass me?” the bunny continued to ask as more and more doubts filled her head. Alex let out a chuckle that made Yulia whine and kick her feet. “Why are you LAUGHING???”

“I’m not! Listen, you worry about having a good time. I’m your big sister, I’ll worry about all that other stuff. If he pulls anything like that, I will kick his ass. He’s what, a fox? I’ve beaten up foxes before, he’ll be easy.” Alex chuckled again, but this time it was at the thought of beating up her little sister’s crush. Her worry bug was nagging at her even more now that her sister was feeling a bit of doubt. She tried her best to push it to the back of her mind, she shouldn’t judge someone before seeing them, right?

“Please don’t beat him up! I really like him!” Yulia protested.

“I won’t! Unless he pours pig’s blood on you, then no promises.” Alex teased her sister some more, which made her sister whine again. “I’m serious! Please don’t!!!”

“Fiiiine, I won’t.” Alex shook her head and rolled her eyes. “Let’s change the subject yeah? Get your nerves down a bit. Have you imagined him naked before?” Alex asked with a raised brow and the smuggest grin spread across her face.

Yulia’s ears drooped down to the side and her little face scrunched up. “Hrmp! I am not ANSWERING THAT!” A faint blush appeared on her cheeks, and while Alex couldn’t exactly see it, she knew it was there.

“That’s all the answer I need. Tell me, how big do you think his fox dick is?” the tigress teased little Yules even further. Yulia didn’t answer her, instead, her face scrunched up even more and she tightened the grip she had on the ends of her towel. She had, in fact, thought about his dick size many times.

---

After getting her sister’s hair in order, misting her in Valentino perfume, and lending her Gucci belt and purse to her, Alex’s duties as a stylist were complete. It was the first time in a long time that Yulia outshined her, and this time she was okay with it. Yulia was very Milan Chic in her plaid dress, Gucci belt, and boots; meanwhile, Alex was very airport comfort couture in jeans, a hoodie over her tank top, and high heels in her hands since she had to drive. Yulia’s cold feet mostly subsided by the time they were in Alex’s car, driving toward the restaurant.

Yulia watched the streetlights as they drove by and fidgeted with the buckle of Alex’s Gucci belt. It made a soft metallic clink every few seconds that stood out from the soft pop music playing on the car stereo. They zipped through the city and arrived at the restaurant just half an hour later. As Alex pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant, Yulia stopped her fidgeting and stared out of Alex’s tinted windows and into the clear restaurant windows.

Alex put the car in park and turned to look at her sister. “Ta-da, we’re here, with time to spare. Want me to go in there with you?”

Yulia, who had been silent for the entire drive, shook her head. “No, I’ll be okay, I see him over there at the entrance.” She pointed to the fox boy who was stood leaned against one of the large pillars that decorated the exterior. Alex looked to where Yulia pointed and saw him. He was in a leather jacket, a black muscle shirt underneath, ripped jeans, and had a lit cigarette in his mouth; first impressions weren't looking too good. Alex quickly pulled open the glove box, pulled out a small box of condoms, and handed them to her sister all without looking away from the fox boy.

“ALEX! WHY ARE YOU GIVING ME CONDOMS??”

“Did you bring any?”

“NO?? It’s a DINNER DATE!”

“Just take them, please.”

Yulia took the condoms quickly, stuffed them into her purse, and quickly reached for the door handle to let herself out. “Thanks for the ride,” she said as the door swung open. “He’ll bring me home, so don’t worry.”

Alex watched her sister as she opened her car door and got out. Before her sister was able to close the door and walk away, however, Alex leaned over the passenger’s seat and handed her a $20 bill. “In case you need an Uber. Please call me if you get into any trouble, me first, then mom. You know how she will freak out over anything.”

“But you’ll be in Mexico…” Yulia took the money from her sister and furrowed her brows, confused.

“And I will fly back here to get you out of trouble if I have to.” Alex smiled.

“Thank you, Alex.” Yulia smiled, “You’re the best.”

“Just doing my job,” Alex shrugged her shoulders and smiled back.

Yulia stepped back from the car, turned on her heels, and skipped her way over to the fox boy waiting for her in front. Her little teardrop tail wiggled and a smile spread on her face that Alex recognized from every Christmas morning. Her sister was genuinely happy, and as much as Alex wanted to go in and keep an eye on that sly-looking fox boy who had her little sister’s heart, she couldn’t ruin her sister’s happy moment like that. She sat in her car, watched Yulia and her date smile at each other nonstop, and tapped her fingers on the steering wheel for five minutes before she started the car and drove out of the parking lot toward the airport.

As the tigress drove on the highway, she smiled, proud of her little sister. The first thing she was going to do once she landed in Cabo, wasn’t shower, but give her sister a call and ask how it all went.

Because that’s what sisters do.
