You heard it right. She’s 15. He’s a creep.

This is EXACTLY my reading of her, too!

I don't know if your opinion will change later but I am THEE #1 Natasha apologist. Obviously she is responsible for her own actions, but her defining characteristic is that she is YOUNG, she's trying to do the right thing and trying to understand her own feelings, and getting messy along the way. She's facing a temptation she's never felt before, doesn't fully understand, and, for their own ends, the people around her are telling her that it's normal and OK to do these things. Anatole (with help from Helene) pursued HER and dazzled HER and overwhelmed HER. She's feeling things she's never felt before, and she's not sure how to interpret or handle them, and she's looking to people around her for cues. She's asking herself if she's been unfaithful to Andre just by having feelings for someone else. Helene is there to tell her that it's OK to have fun, even though you're engaged it's OK to do a little flirting and be admired, which is, admittedly, is what she wanted to do in the first place. Anatole dances with her (which is something people did do, not a scandalous thing for the time period) and she says "you're going too far, don't say these things to me, I'm engaged" and literally tries to run away from him until he grabs her -"you're hurting my hand" and then HE kisses HER. And her rationalization reads, to me, in some part - how could this have happened unless I wanted it to happen? How could I kiss a man (in this case, returning a kiss she tried to avoid) without being in love with him?
