Great discussion about Adolescence. Interested to hear further opinions from you guys about how social media should be handled with young teens/kids. If/when you guys have kids, what’s your philosophy? No smartphones at all? No socials? I have none. My wife and i would like our kid to have none, but it feels so engrained in our culture. It would be nice for them to grow up without it, but are we doing more harm or good when they come home at 13 years old and beg for an instagram account and we tell them no? I would hope they would trust our judgement, but perhaps they would want it more and rebel a bit. For example, they find a way to get it anyway, they are ostracized by social groups they want to be a part of and resent their parents for it, etc. It feels like it would be hard to convince a child that it’s ok to miss out on that part of the zeitgeist.

It's possible that, subconsciously, my life experiences have cause me to place higher value on the works of white european men, but I don't do this intentionally. Regardless, I won't create a disingenuous that doesn't represent what I actually feel are the greatest paintings to enforce a representation. I you disagree, I welcone you create your list." It's not gonna appease everyone and some people will say, "see she just admitted it!" But it's a perfectly acceptable response.
