The BO friend, someone highlighted checking in w how they’re doing which I agree with and if that is clear then you just gotta tell them. “Hey bud, you’re a little ripe today, how we addressing this, what do you need?”

Really great ep!! Taking a lot of advice from this one :) thank you

compost babie

Glad to hear it! Good luck with your work!!

That was my question— im doing an internship this summer to get away! it’s with a lab my research advisor wants to network with, and I can get out from my assistantship for a few months and live in a cool city. I don’t think I’ll actually quit. I’m doing experiments now, rather than numerical work, so it’s slightly more fun. And lastly im visiting my friends on the weekends and my grades are a bit lower as a result but im happier! Good luck with your program!!

On Tipping: 100000000% if you dine in & don’t tip 20% min go fuck yourself. That DOES make you a shitty, entitled person. Period. Tipping take out: look at it like this: if every single person that ordered take out (food or coffee) tipped $1 that would be huge for the hosts/Baristas. What’s one single dollar added to your order?

As another civil engineering masters student who hates their research, I’d love to hear whether they end up leaving their job if there’s ever an update! I can’t afford to but I’d love to live vicariously

Hiiii okay so 8 year barista/coffee shop manager here! If you’re a regular I truly do not care if they tip every time. If you’re just grabbing a hot drip or iced coffee/cold brew, I don’t think it’s required. When you start getting to more labor intensive drinks like a latte, frappe, etc, it’s very much appreciated, especially at a local/small shop with a real manual or semi-automatic espresso machine. If you’re grabbing drinks for multiple people, it’s standard to tip $1 per drink, similar to a bartender. I like to think of bartenders and baristas as pretty much the same thing, as I’ve done both and they require the same skill set :)

Yes! Even in USD it’s more expensive than in AUD and I live in Sydney!

Lol! Just if you leave them in the washing machine for too long and don’t switch it over they’ll get mildew and smell sour! Like if you leave them for more than a day

Wait clothes can go sour? What is the trick to laundry? I am so paranoid about smelling bad lol

Emily Riebeek

Regarding the BO thing: I feel like a lot of people who smell are stinky because they don’t do their laundry correctly and their clothes go sour. It’s typically people who didn’t have to do laundry when they were younger and never learned. Idk how to approach that either though. But maybe it is BO and maybe they know already. Depression? Ask them how they’re doing emotionally? Idk but I feel like you have to say something

I am just shook to my core about how expensive coffee is in America as an Aussie!?

Claire I really really recommend a nespresso machine if ur looking to start making ur own coffee, I feel like I really know good coffee (literally travelled all around Europe growing up and went to a historical site in rural colombia where they make it from scratch) and even tho the capsules can get expensive it’s cheaper than outsourcing and it is worth it it’s among the best coffee I’ve ever had and you can always get the machines for cheaper second hand too !

You guys are on fire today! The only advice I would add is just tell your friend she has BO. Just straight up tell her and ask her if she needs help picking out new deodorant or soap or whatever

MutinyontheBeagle

Claire’s comment about how living life is more important than a dinner party story was so poignant & applies to a lot of things in life I think. This was a really good ep
