POLL - Ted's Dolls Setting

Although this is a poll posting, it is also a "How are things in the TDU?" posting. Things are so-so. I have probably rushed releasing season 4. Season 3's first episode, TD27 came out last September. I know it's only me who obsesses about release timings but what can I do? I also feel like I'm not working on all the other 70-odd stories (specifically 20 or so of them) that have been started but not finished.

I never named the university where TD takes place. It is referred to as RCU.EDU in the emails Mitch and Emily exchanged about app development help. I have no idea what I thought RC stood for. Now, it annoys me because people will just refer to "The University" as if everyone knows which one. Or I have to jump through a bunch of hoops. Similarly, I regret never naming "the city" but the nameless university is more annoying. The name of the university would make a few conversations in the upcoming TD44 flow better.

This also applies to buildings at the university. How many dormitories are there? At least three, I think. Mitch and his friends are definitely not in the dorm where Ted lives since he drove Emily to the dorm when she was first their doll (in TD4). An upcoming episode puts Emily's and Jane's dorm room in the same dormitory where Mary, Candace, and Freddy live. Why are there so many single rooms at this university? Other than Emily's and Jane's room and Mitch's and Toby's room, they're mostly single occupancy rooms.

I suspect the fact that the writing of It Suits Me was contemporary with early Ted's Dolls stories melded the university settings in my mind. ISM's university is Thymes-Fowler University (TFU).

TL;DR What should I do about the nameless university?

I did not think of this. :headdesk:

Just call it RCU. Lots of places get referred to by their initials like that, and rarely if ever does anyone make reference to it any other way. My local university is just UVic, and the next nearest one goes by UBC and I almost never hear its full name.

Honestly, leave it nameless. Naming it makes it either more real, using MIT or whatever, or less real, Something McDosNotExist. Both weaken the story for basically no gain, some ppl will want it grounded in reality more, others will want it to be more fantastical, either way, it's a loss. It's why old school RPG MCs don't talk, it lets you supply the details in your own head and own the MC, or in this case, the uni.
