I just saw you responding to the quite obvious writing shortcuts they opted to take with this one. It all started with that telegraphed exposition that you rightly called out. That drove the Finn sub plot on the direction they wanted to take. The in your face conflict to resolution, in only one sitting. Rather than the slow burn discovery that we are in agreement we'd have probably preferred, in regards to getting to know a new character. They maybe wanted to ignite a new and very quick character bonding with Hodgins and Finn. And again, choose the shortcut through conflict route. Reciprocal hazing that results in coming to an understanding. Did they do Hodgins dirty by making him act like an elitist jerk? It wouldn't be the first time. The dude started off as an anger issue elasticband snapping, antagonist conspiracy nut. With the repetitive tenacity to rag on Zack a fair bit. Ultimately he was shown to have great affection for Zack. Then there's the not so subtle reminder that he is from old money and the inherent clichés of societal differences that they choose to draw on. The nicknames Opie and Thurston are born. The Brennan and Booth relationship friction and communicational boundaries, are just that, what they have always been. That wouldn't suddenly change because they are now have a different kind of relationship. It's always been their path to coming to an understanding on their different outlooks. Brennan finding her own way here is the outcome they have most often travelled in the past. The whole episode had a communication through line.

And as a Hodgins fan, I was super disappointed in the way he kept attacking Finn. Also, he wasn’t in prison, he went to juvenile detention and his record was expunged when he turned 18 If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of Finn. He and his mom were abused, he acted out in destructive ways and eventually paid the price and learned a lesson. Instead of letting his past dictate his future, he took matters into his own hands and became the best version of himself he could be.
