Dev Blog 20 | Jel's Cafe | Burnout recovery

Hi all, I've recovered from my small burnout and have been back to work on the game. A lot of stuff has still been behind the scenes work - for example writing the scripts for the characters and their lore bibles, but I also did make a start on some additional content for the game too. Once I'm done with commissions I'll be back to fully working on this project again.

JEL'S CAFE PROGRESS

Writing work:

This has been my primary focus over the last two week, I suffer from Dyslexia and also struggle focusing with writing too because of my Autism, so for this project I'm having some additional help when it comes to writing from a friend of mine. To help prep them with the large amount of work that is to come I wrote the character lore bible, a huge document that contains all information, lore etc towards my characters, this lore bible will remain private for now. With that finally being completed this week I've now moved onto the script, as of writing I've began taking all of the dialouge and text from the game and laying it out in a script format. My goal once the script is done is to then go over all of it with my friend and anaylise if text should be changed, added, removed etc. This is a big task and will likely take a while to fully complete.

Gossip and Talk:

Speaking of writing, a function for the "Gossip" button has finally been considered. This option will give whichever character you're talking to randomised dialouge. This dialouge can range from helpful information to just random thoughts they have.

Another plan I have later on is to have the interests and yourself buttons change dialouge as a character has higher friendship and fullness. But this feature won't be added for a while.

Carmela:

I began working on a new customer, Carmela. She's a demon that has ties to the boss that can be found in Quota mode, and has a grudge against Bliss. Carmela is a special customer as she requires conditions to be unlocked (Similar to the shopping vendors). In Casual mode Carmela is just unlocked by default, no requirements needed however in Quota mode you must complete at least one in game week for her to appear. This is because she's sent by her father (The boss you pay money to in quota mode) to keep an eye on you and the cafe and ensure the money is flowing in.

Carmela right now is not finished, she has no dialouge, placeholder art and she's also missing some code related to the food and gift items. She'll likely have her code work finished next week.
