Important Nexy Comics Updates 💜

This is gonna be a LONG one, so there’s a TL:DR summary at the very bottom with just the dot points
But for those that want the proper deets and ride the roller coaster, strap in! 😅

Hey all!
This post is letting you know about some changes I’m making to the Patreon, as well as some updates on other projects I’ve talked about previously and some things I’m looking forward to in hopefully doing in the future! 😊
I’ll section these things off so you can hit the points you’re most interested in so it’s not just one big block… starting with:

A little context for the rest of the post:

As a lot of you know, I’ve been struggling with my mental health a lot lately which makes creating comics difficult. This post isn’t meant to be (and won’t be) a sob story but, but I think a little background helps with some context on the decisions I’ve had to make.
Over the past year I’ve had a lot of medical assessments and come out the other end with diagnoses for ADHD and “extremely severe” anxiety, as well as insomnia.
I’m taking steps to help these things with medications, life changes and making different choices, but as those out there with similar issues know… it’s not a simple, easy or as quick as some doctors or pharmacists will imply 😅

This all also feeds into my work as it becomes a very strong cycle with each thing triggering each other…
I can’t sleep well which makes me tired, which means I can’t get my work done, which means I need to work double the next day, which makes me anxious, which means I can’t sleep well, which means I can’t focus, which means I don’t get work done again, which means it piles up on me, which makes me MORE anxious, which means … you get it.

Now as I said this ISN’T a sob story, everyone has their own issues and battles to fight and mine aren’t any bigger than anyone else’s, this is just mine for the sake of context.
I am making progress with my mental health and trying out new ways every day to figure out the best way to do things… and these changes are me taking another step.

So that’s the background, let’s get on to the important stuff!

Patreon Tier price adjustment:

I figure I’d start with the most difficult change I had to make first up… The $10 tier is now $14.
But to be clear, this is only for new subs, this does not effect current subs and you can keep the $10 price point for as long as you want to, which I highly encourage you do! 😊
The only stipulation is if you stop subbing and then want to resub in future, then it will be at the new price point. That’s just how Patreon works, there’s nothing I can do about that.

This is by far the hardest change to make and something I’ve agonized over… but ultimately it’s something that I just have no real choice in doing if I want this to keep going.
Money and my current debts are probably the #1 issue causing the anxiety I talked about earlier (as I’m sure it is for a lot of people), but if I can get to a safe feeling of financial security then I can finally break that anxiety cycle and be able to more consistently keep on top of the comics in a healthier way 💜

But also if I’m being fair to myself… pretty much everything has changed since I made that $10 price point over five years ago when I started creating comics, both in the world in general as the prices of everything go up, but also with my comics themselves!
Not only did that original price years ago only give you access to a couple small comics of roughly 60 pages or so, but I was also working entirely by myself doing every part of the process.
And NOW that tier gives access to dozens of comics with hundreds of pages each, along with being joined by other fantastic artists to make them so much better in quality!
I commission artists like Alex Hopper and OnO who make amazingly funny and sexy script drafts that I can then ‘Nexify’ with my own flavours to turn them into the comics you know and love, and Swish edits the pages I render into visual feasts of sound and text effects!

The quality in the comics has gone up significantly over the five years which is great… but so has the cost.
It’s definitely worth the cost don’t get me wrong, and it’s YOU guys that have allowed me to do all that in the first place which I am eternally grateful for!
And this is why I want to make sure that all you alumni of the Nexyverse are able to keep supporting me on the original price point as a thank you for all the love and support you’ve given me. It’s truly humbling and I am SO grateful to you all 💜

A new ‘Producer’ tier!

Speaking of awesome people, I’ve had various people over the years ask about ways they can support me further and I’ve never really had a way to do that… so I figured I’d make one!

Simply put, this is a $20 tier for people who want to give that extra bit of support if they want to 🥰
At this point I’m still figuring out exactly what to do with this long term, but for now the offer is that if you choose to be a Producer and stay on this tier through the course of the entirety of a comic’s release, I’ll then immortalise your name as a ‘Producer’ on an end card of that comic |
Now I know some people might not want their Patreon name in public and that’s totally understandable! So if you would like a different name posted I can absolutely do that if you by just sending me a message with the name you’d like instead.

Also to celebrate this new tier along with the fact that Ectogasm is already in production, anyone who subs to that tier this week until Ecto ends will be added as a Producer of Ectogasm as well as the new comic ‘Shape of Blue’ that is starting this week 😘

There also might be some other stuff I can add in future for those peeps, little bonuses here and there of some fun extra renders or sequences, but I don’t want to promise anything until I get more stable with my current workload.
I am considering maybe something like doing a monthly raffle in that tier, the winner maybe able to get a free pin-up of a Nexyverse character or something, not quite sure yet…

And of course if you do want to give me a bit of extra support but $20 is understandably a bit too much, then simply upgrading to the new $14 tier is more than helpful as it is and very much appreciated if you decide to that! 💜

Animations… remember that?

Yyyyeah… if you don’t remember or weren’t around, about a YEAR ago now (god.) I talked about making animations with short possession and/or shifting sequences…
Long story short… that’s no longer a thing. 🥲

To be perfectly honest this was me trying my hardest to break through my Patreon sub plateau that I’ve had for years now to alleviate some of the stressors mention in the first section, hoping that something new might help.
What I didn’t anticipate was just how time consuming it is to do which just made me burn out, so I have to admit the fact that I sadly just don’t physically have the time to do it.

Add on top of that the massive rise of AI generated videos that have now flooded the TG/TF world, it’s hard not to feel a little… disheartened about trying to break into an already flooded field.

Damn… I was looking forward to those!

So was I! But all may not be lost…
My dream is that if I can get to that safe financial place with the help some of these changes and stabilise again, that I’d then be able to commission other artists and share their work with you guys!

For example you guys have seen Moriarty share some fan comics he’s commissioned, and I think it’s SO cool that he is supporting a bunch of other artists like that for the love of this world. 🥰

There are SO many talented artists out there making cool stuff, and I want to support those who are persevering despite the AI onslaught.
So hopefully in future I could have other artists making some cool animations, or other styles of comics or other things entirely that you guys can gobble up alongside the regular comics! 🤤

Nexy Comics translations!

I’ve ALWAYS had people asking about my comics in languages other than English, but getting them translated is again a LOT of time, money in energy finding people who can both translate AND edit the comics at a decent quality… as WELL as them being okay with the content itself.
Also I’m not interested in using AI to translate comics, I’d rather find and pay actual artists to do it instead to give the proper authentic feel to them 😊

Harder said than done though… for example I spent months trialling and testing with a Chinese translator who was doing good looking work… but I can’t read Chinese so I had no idea if it is translated well!
I sent it around to some people to test it… apparently it’s not very good and MAY have just been AI bundled to look professional meaning it was all for nothing… ugh.

But amongst this I’ve found an incredibly passionate and wonderful person named Lynne who is a big fan already, and is now working hard on making the comics accessible for Chinese readers! 😁

I of course want to translate to more languages than that, so if anyone knows of any translators who can translate FROM English TO another language and has skills in photoshop (most people I find do foreign language to English but can’t do the reverse), let me know! I’d love to focus on Japanese next I think 🤔

And lastly… Website upgrades!

The Nexy Comics website is now over a year old and I’m really proud of it as someone who’s never designed a website before!
There’s been some rockiness of course and some teething issues here and there, but that’s to be expected and I think most of the major stuff has been ironed out 😮‍💨

There’s some things I want to add or improve though when I find the time and money to do so, some examples:
-Improve the readability and accessibility on mobile devices… currently it sucks!
-Add an area for bonus content and random renders and stuff I’ve done over the years that’s just sitting idly on my hard drive, along with a bunch of random stuff Swish messes with.
-Optimise the site to improve load times
-Potentially open the site to allow other content creators to post their own stuff on their if they want

I’d love to hear from all of you guys if there’s stuff in particular that you’d like to be looked at or improved, but I’ll do that on a separate post sometime soon as there’s enough going on in this one for now! 😅

TL:DR Summary:

-Main Tier price is adjusting from $10 to $14 USD to keep up with the world’s shitty economy
-A new ‘Producer’ Tier has been added at $20 if you’re interested in a providing a bit of extra support
-I’m no longer working on potentially making animations myself
-I am however hopefully looking to commission other artists for animations and other art in future after my finances settle
-Translations for my comics are being worked on, first will be Chinese and then hopefully Japanese next
-Also looking to upgrade the website, the first improvements being the mobile experience because it currently sucks. I’ll post soon asking for other input too to see what you guys would like to have improved!
