If my memory isn't failing me, then it wasn't the corrosion to the PzH 2000 turret that resulted in that attempt to up-arm the ship in going nowhere. Not that corrosion did not occur, but it was of little relevance to the goals of that test, which was to examine how feasible it was to use the gun system of the PzH 2000 as naval artillery. It was always intended to make a naval variant that would be able to deal with corrosion, but only if the test turned out well. Well, they did not. If I remember correctly, the ship could not deal well with the force of the recoil. A special mounting for the turret would have head to be developed and that was seen as asking too much. EDIT: Never mind. I checked around about that project and while the turret did require the special mounting, it was the difficulty in making the system corrosion resistant that resulted in it being abandoned.

HARK!

I heard somewhere that the U.S. Navy did a study to explore the viability of using the bridge layout as seen on Star Trek federation starships on their own vessels (and supposedly found that layout to be more efficient from a command perspective)
