The green mist we see when Rimuru is fighting Geld is caused by Geld corroding Rimuru. Actually during the fight Geld is more powerful than Rimuru. The evidence for this is that Geld has a Demon Lord Seed and Rimuru does not. Meaning Rimuru had not reached the necessary level of power to be given one and Geld had. As noted by Rimuru, the reason he won is that Predator was a good matchup for Starved. Rimuru's Ultraspeed Regeneration is also fast enough to keep up with Geld's Corrosion, so despite being less powerful, Rimuru was never really in any danger because he matched up well against Geld's skillset.

So first things first: there are stages to the evolutionary path of 'Demon Lord.' Not every Demon Lord that we see will be at the same evolutionary stage. The 'Orc Disaster' is at the first stage of the evolutionary path known as 'Demon Lord Seed.' Simply put: a Demon Lord Seed is something that is acquired automatically once a monster reaches the necessary threshold of power and Skill level. After consuming Gelmud, the Orc Lord powered up to the point where the world system acknowledged that he could become a Demon Lord, so he evolved into the Orc Disaster. Frankly, the Orc Disaster should not be used as a measure of how strong Demon Lords are in this world. He is a brand new Seed, and as such would be considered the weakest.
