The movie they are watching is The Goodbye Girl (1977) with Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason. Kind of a sleeper, romantic comedy. Worth watching if you’re ever inclined to watch more Dreyfus films beyond Jaws

2024-07-28 16:22:54 +0000 UTCThere are some changes in this episode and that's the introduction of Jackson. The town doesn't appear until Part II of the game franchise (with the exception of a brief overhead view in Part I). Joel and Ellie's encounter with Tommy and Maria takes place at a nearby hydroelectric dam in the first game. Another change is the argument Joel and Ellie have before they leave. It doesn't take place in Jackson but an abandoned Ranch house Ellie ran away to after hearing Joel wanted Tommy to finish the job. The argument was kept in and they made it almost identical to the game's version including the blocking, dialog and set design due to its effectiveness and the impact it had on players. The University of Eastern Colorado section had them search for the lab but it becomes increasingly obvious that the school had been abandoned for quite some time. When they finally find a recorder that tells them of the current whereabouts of the Fireflies, they are spotted by another group of survivors that start to attack them. As Joel and Ellie try to escape from the school grounds, Joel is pushed over a railing by one of the attackers. They both fall two stories down, and Joel is impaled through the stomach with a metal beam, which leaves him severely wounded and struggling to walk. The rest happens the same way it does in the show. Happy your Dad is doing better!
