I think this first episode is a masterclass in setting up a series. It's has LOTS of emotion for so early and tells you a ton of information without you feeling all lost and frustrated. 🥂

The developers helped create the show so there is a lot of dialog straight from the game along with some scenes as they played out there. The game was released originally in June of 2013 so I played it on the PS3. The game was an emotional rollercoaster and even had a "New Game Plus" where you could start over with everything from when you first played it. I couldn't handle all of those emotions again lol Some trivia: They brought on the same person who composed music for the games for the show. The music you hear in the title sequence is the main theme from the first game. In the games, the fungus is spreading through spores in the air. For the show, they were replaced with tendrils. Neil Druckmann explained that this was a deliberate decision he made early on during the show's development, as he wanted to make the world more believable and the fungus more frightening. Merle Dandridge plays Marlene in the show and is actually the Voice Actor for Marlene in the game. It was a smart decision :)
