UPDATE: work upgrade
Added 2025-02-25 17:04:50 +0000 UTC
Just want to let you guys know, there will be a few days delay. I'll be working on building and setting up a new computer. No issues with my current computer, it is functioning fine, I'll have it to fall back on if I hit any roadblocks. I hope you'll wait for me.
The screencap shows my current/old build, so you can judge if I was due for an upgrade, or chastise me for greedily craving unnecessary power.
The graphic unit in in the i5 can handle games as well as my ole 750, I'm satisfied with that for now.

Indeed I'm building from scratch. My old computer will remain and serve as a back up.

You could very easily get a cheaper card instead of something built in.

Dear lord you're in need of an upgrade! You deserve it for sure!

Good suggestion, got a longer cable so I can switch to that.

I recommend swapping from WiFi to Ethernet on the newer rig.

I can't judge you for craving power, I put another 32GB of ram to my computer just the other day

I've had times where I have to close stuff to stop that from happening.

I would like to see your new system instead.

I'm sure it Will be smoother using larger brush sizes. When I draw with processing intense stuff there is a significant lag that does slow me down and bothers me. Upgrade is worth it

4 cores 0 threats 2.6Ghz of speed really good one, but if you can upgrade the cpu do it to intel, its focused more in multitasking and you as an artist im sure you have a few heavy progrmas you need
If so core i5 or i7 better i5 cheaper and very good performance for someone like you

You're probably going to need a new motherboard if you're going to go with an intel CPU. The CPU you've got right now uses an AM3 Socket, you're going to need a motherboard with an LGA1700 socket. So you're either going to have to go with a nearly "from scratch" build, or change out that CPU. An AMD Ryzen 5 7600 would be a rough AMD equivalent if you want to stick with AMD, but requires an AM5 socket, still necessitating a motherboard upgrade. If you don't want to change the motherboard, the best options is probably the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, but for the same price as the intel with vastly less capability, you're not getting the best bang for your buck

Actually, this is perfectly ripe to be upgraded.~ Like you said, your current system is fine, but the upgrade is indeed welcome and will help.

A 15 year old CPU... I'm almost surprised you can get anything done at all on that dinosaur. Go get your upgrade. You deserve it.

I'll have my editor help me through it. I've replaced parts but not build from scratch.

I barely know enough about pcs to install a new SSD and even I'm pretty sure that hardware needs replacing lol

solid upgrades, you’ll definitely be bottlenecked by the 750 but if you’re not a heavy gamer it shouldnt be a huge deal. making the switch to intel is an interesting choice but the price for the i5-14500 is hard to argue with

cpu: intel i5-14500
ram: 32gb
storage: 4tb ssd
No graphics card, leaving it for an upgrade down the line.

I’m curious, what specs are you upgrading to? 750 is ANCIENT at this point haha

Good heavens bro, that's some ancient hardware. Perfectly reasonable to upgrade.

My computer always uses 100% of its system, idk if that's just a skill issue or if my laptop is just built different 😎

Starting with 32gb but I can easily add the other 32 later.

I like AMD, had my eye on their cpu's. At any rate I promise I'll have something released this decade.

Though I’m also assuming from your post that you’ve already ordered and obtained the parts, so I guess this advice is kinda pointless. Good luck with the build I guess :P

I'd say if your willing to put in the cash upgrade to an AM4 build. 32gb of ram is a good idea as well.

You should get some more RAM maybe if you want to ever do like 3D modeling.
I got like 64GB of ram but even that is not totally enough for what I do lol

Jeez, that really *is* an old machine you’re running. Hope the upgrade goes well—I’ve had a lot of experience with building PCs in both ATX and Mini-ITX form factors and using both Windows and [Manjaro] Linux with them. If anything, upgrading your RAM to 32 GB of DDR5 (maybe 48, but I doubt you’d seriously need a full 64 GB for solely drawing) and getting a CPU from within this DECADE would help you out very much.
My recommendation is AMD for both CPU and GPU, considering Intel’s reputation for self-destructing processors and the very recent outcropping of Nvidia 50 series GPUs missing up to 10% of their goddamn render units, loading that much performance which you’re supposed to be paying for.
