Hello! Today we get smooth and jazzy with a few of the verse fills from Digitally Yours. A fun fact is that the working title for this song was Zip Zorp. In my head it's still Zip Zorp, so I almost named this post Zip Zorp.

This section works by filling in the gaps between the vocal phrases with short fills. The majority of these are harmonized in 3rds. This creates one of my favourite sounds on the guitar (and one that's often underused!). One way to practice this style is to take something like a D major scale and play it across strings 1&2 in 3rds:
-2--3--5--7--9----10--12--14---
-3--5--7--8--10---12--14--15--
-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
Or strings 2&3:
----------------------------------
-3--5--7--8--10--12--14------
-4--6--7--9--11--12--14------
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
----------------------------------
Not only will these give you a good exercise to practice, but it'll also give you something creative to mess around with next time you're jamming or writing. I'll often grab these shapes if I'm going for a certain chill and beach-y sound.

Armed with the knowledge of 3rds, you can give this tune a whirl. The trick is to get the phrases right. Listen to the recording and carefully pay attention to where slides happen, the speed of them, etc. That'll go a long way in enhancing the feel.
