Technique Talk:
- shake 'em. That's right, apply vibrato on the notes to make them sound wiggly. How is this done? Wrap your thumb over the top to get some leverage, and rock your hand back and forth, using the side of the 1st finger on the bottom of the neck as a kind of pivot. Slow this video down and you'll see the mechanics of it a bit better. Don't worry if your attempts sound like a sad cat's meow at first, it takes some time to get a hang of.
- Pay attention to where left hand switches between 7th and 5th positions. Fortunately there's lots of little pauses in the rhythm, which gives you a great opportunity to move your hand up and down.
- Wear an Adidas tracksuit for maximum confidence.
Tone Talk:
There's a little chorus on my guitar. Chorus is an effect that basically doubles your guitar into two copies, both slightly out of tune with each other. Not enough out of tune-ness to sound bad, but just enough to add some depth. If you have a pedal, or the effect on your amp, try it out!
Theory Talk:
This riff was written using an A minor pentatonic scale. Here it is below:
-----------------------------------8-10/12--
----------------------------8-10-------------
---------------------5-7/9-------------------
---------------5-7---------------------------
-------3-5/7---------------------------------
-3-5-----------------------------------------
Look familiar? That's because it keeps coming up. I use this all the time to write guitar parts, and you should too!
There's also these nice chords playing beneath. Any theory heads might want to take a moment to figure out some voicings:
Fmaj7 - Emin7 - Amin7
Fmaj7 - Emin7 - Amin7
Fmaj7 - E7 - Amin7
Bbmaj7
