Here's a fun one - and it's relatively simple too!
There's two different parts to this verse. The first half (that's low on the neck) we'll call the 'first half', and the second half (high up on the neck) we'll call the... 'second half'.
And before you begin, may I ask one simple favor? Would you mind trying your best and forgetting the rest?
Pro Tips:
- Lightly palm mute the notes in the first half.
- In the first half, I down-pick the first 4 notes and up-pick the last 2. This helps with the funky rhythm, since the downstrokes are on the downbeats and the upstrokes are on the offbeats.
- In the second half, if you mute the 2nd string with the underside of your first finger, you can strum the top 3 strings and have only the 1st and 3rd strings ring out.
Theory Talk:
- In the second half, the left hand shapes are octaves. For example, in the first one I'm playing 2 notes on the 3rd and 1st strings which are both D. The two D's spaced an octave apart make a thick and juicy sound. You can move this shape around to play all kinds of high melodies and rhythms.
- Arrangement-wise, Meouch is still playing the same riff as the first half during the second half, but in the key of E minor instead of A. To do this, you'd just takes the first half and move it all down one string. While the bass plays this repeating part, the guitar branches off and plays these high octave chords.
- The downward descending motion in the second half creates a falling sound, which is just kind of a little spooky!
