It means being ruled over - go to war when a king says, worship the gods they say, pay taxes to them, marry or create families as they command.. it’s not to be taken lightly

Just to let you know, the timelines of multiple storylines aren’t followed chronologically, and while some are going on for months, another might be going on for weeks, it isn’t until characters meet up do you know that the timelines have come together. Arya was in the riverlands for seasons but it wasn’t necessarily as long as other storylines have been going on, does that make sense?
