Oil Portrait of the Captive - From the Mind of Christine McConnell + Bonus Clip from the Livestream
Added 2025-02-28 14:14:22 +0000 UTC
Hello!
Here is a fun practice video for a much bigger painting I'm planning for later this year! My Cherries Jubilee Episode should be coming in a couple weeks now (I've had a few hiccups obtaining all of the supplies for what I'm planning)
In our last Livestream I told a terrible story of jumping out at the Captive to scare him, and as promised (with the Captives permission), the story and actual clip are at the end of this episode.
As a funny note,I had him preview this episode first and he kept replaying and laughing at the last part!
Can't wait to share more fun videos I've got in the works!
-Christine
Your laughter in the Bonus clip made me laugh so hard that I got a tummy ache. That was fantastic!

My dad used to tell me when I used to .. doubt myself on doing things, “If you don’t try , you will never know”… I always try to do things, sometimes doesn’t go to the way I want to, however I try as many times until I am happy. As my father used to tell me “ if you fall, is ok, get up with your head up”… sometimes I get overwhelmed on things, the doubts, however deep down I know I can do it. I don’t know you, Allan.. although, if you think you are natural on things, for sure you can do whatever you interested on. I am going to say “follow your gut”. Is in our hands to do the things We love. “ YOU CAN DO IT, ALLAN” …. Kind regards Lyn

There are some things I’m a natural at, and although I have never tried oil painting, I don’t think that I could achieve such a good likeness the first time, even with a sketch before hand. I’ve always wanted to draw my wife in one of the Alphonse Mucha styled posters. I hadn’t thought of using PhotoShop to jump start the process. First I’ll have to buy PhotoShop, then figure out how to manipulate it…. How do you get past those negative thoughts in your head that tell you “don’t bother, you’ll never be able to do it?” Any advice would be welcome!

The execution of the painting is so incredibly dreamy with the delicate brushwork. Stunning Christine! What a forever keepsake!
I’m sure the captive was beyond thrilled. Thank you also for showing us any adjustments you made, and for the tip about uploading the image of the painting and overlaying that over the photo! Genius tip. I create surrealist type art when I draw or paint, and getting proportions correct (especially details in a face like the eyes) is super hard!
LOVE the video too of you scaring the absolute bejesus out of the captive! I showed my husband the video and he laughed so hard along with me.
I love your roaring laughter afterwards. All my husband has to do is simply exist…he’ll walk into a room and surprise me. The joke between us is my husband should wear a bell so I know where he is. The man is as stealthy as a raptor! After he scares me and he’s doubled over laughing I clutch my chest and I point up toward the ceiling while I joke, “THAT IS WHERE MY SPIRIT IS RIGHT NOW!”

Can you pretty please do a tutorial of how you did your hair and makeup for this video? You look absolutely gorgeous. I would like to know every hair product, what hair tools you used, what makeup you used, your technique. I am sure I am not the only one. Also.. just a thought.. a colab with Erin Parsons would be AMAZING!

I love to sneak up and jumpscare people 😂 and of course beautiful painting. I would have just stopped at the photoshop one and ran it through a filter though as I’m not good at oil paints at all.

Oh man! You got him good! I love your laughter at the end. Christine, that painting….is so haunting. You captured his likeness perfectly. Your talent knows no bounds. I was waiting to see if you were going to paint his arms and torso tied up. You can’t let him get too relaxed with the idea of being free.
Thanks for sharing that scare at the end. What a treat!

Four things: (1) I love how you used your arm as a mahl stick; (2) Grant is incredibly handsome (I met you both in person and you're both stunning); (3) you're an amazing artist! Amazing at everything you do; and (4) I may have peed a little laughing at the end 🤣
