Restoring a 19th Century Chair - From the Mind of Christine McConnell

Comments

At 5:12 on the fabric, if you look under your arm, it looks like there is a face on it.😰 scared me

Ri

I like how the rouched detail in the front makes it kinda look like the chair has teeth

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I learn so much while watching someone work. I love finding things to rehab so this video is invaluable!

allie

This is absolutely Stunning Christine, my husband and I have watched all of your you tube videos and love your aesthetic. We own tons of antique ( old and worn ) pieces and look to upgrading our pieces.

Frannie

I did antique chair a few years ago, and that thing had so much horse hair in it and dust. All I could think of was just trapped farts in that horse hair. Lol

Rebecca Valentine

This is brilliant! I’ve always seen reupholstering as some enigmatic superpower I would never be able to attain, for some reason. This gives me a little more confidence in my ability to give antique pieces a second (or 3rd, or 4th) life.

Kristin Yeager

So beautiful!

Brandi Higginbotham

I looks sooo Purty!

Ashley Randolph

The chair came out gorgeous!!!

Allyson Galpin-Hernandez

I'm surprised you didn't do some refurbishing or refreshing of the wood frame before you began the re-upholstery part.

Lori Ratcliff

It’s incredible Christine! I absolutely love the finished set! 👌🏻🤎✨

Hannah Graham-de Vries

I picked mine up at Joann Fabric :))

Christine McConnell

Where did you get your button maker?

Iby Villalobos

Wow, the chair turned out amazingly.

Iby Villalobos

You are so cleaver, thank you for the ideas.

Tania McIntyre

I found it! So sorry to bother <3

Ms. Peabody

Somehow I can’t find the episode where Christine places the floor lamps, paints the lighted vanity mirror, recommends the M Washington cabinets for side storage. Can someone help me out please? :)

Ms. Peabody

It turned out beautifully!

Laura Chambers

I'm in love with the matching vanity! It's so gorgeous I had to rewatch your both vanity episodes! What a treat it will be for your guests.

Reed

I love how it matches the vanity!

Marina salinas

Oh my Lord! ✨I mean, everything you do Blows My Mind! But that ✨chair✨ is literally a piece of furniture heaven. The colour of the velvet with the wood.. the beauty of the 2 pieces together… I mean.. just… beautiful 💗🌷🍎🍄🐞👠

Nicky Warner

I've spent years looking for a long nosed, narrow stapler for upholstery. Can you provide a link?

Cbon

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode 🤎 The Captive really dialled up the spook with the soundtrack 😂 loved it!

Kurtis Wayne Cable

Absolutely stunning! I love how you matched it with the vanity 🩷

Morticia Kensington

If you ever need batting to gently merge into a surface, btw, it helps to rip it by hand instead of cutting it. Very subtle edge.

Nora Dallaire

My mom and sister are both quilters and reupholsterers. You would not believe the amount of batting they go through! 🤣

Nora Dallaire

The chair looks AMAZING 🤩!! And I can hardly wait to see the final reveal. I have 6 late 1800s dinning chairs I found for free. They're solid as but will have to be recovered. I've done so many but always seem to do it the hard way. Yours looks better and makes more sense 😊 xx

Liana Palumbo

Very cool!

Rez NYC

Beautiful!!

Fushayne Hauskins

I love it! I wonder how it would look to do a chair like this with an embroidery on the back!

L.W. Nicholson

That chair looks so comfortable (not to mention gorgeous!) It was pretty before, but now it's truly stunning! Great job!

Tammy R Dowden

Absolutely beautiful! That chocolate velvet was the perfect choice. I really love the gathers at the front of the seat and the polish brought the wood to life. It now looks better than the original!

Heal Grow Love

Gosh that chair looks so beautiful and comfortable!

Jess Meister

The chair turned out fabulous and fits well with the vanity! I love that you kept the original finish and just gave it some love with Olde English. That's all the wood really needed. The final reveal is going to be breathtaking.

Tammy Warner

ooooff the professional upholsterer in me had a few moments that were hard to watch, but you know what? The end result is actually really good and honestly for someone who never got training in upholstery, I'm impressed (not that I'm that surprised since it's Christine 😉)

Charlotte Gautier

My husband walked by and said “oh, you’re watching a chair repair “ and I replied “yes, but make it creepy “ :) It’s lovely!

Susanfuzz

Beautiful work, as always! Noticed the cat brooch on your black sweater.🐈‍⬛

tamviolet

Oooh i can’t wait to watch this one! I love upholstery

Crow Hollow

I flip furniture for a living. I’m wondering why you didn’t deep clean the entire chair after removing all the old upholstery ?? Also, use an electric knife and carving all that foam will be so easy peasy 😎. It’s gorgeous…I absolutely love your work 😉

Sande Greene

This looks amazing! I have seen tufted chairs where they add a layer of batting over the foam and then cover with the finishing fabric. After the fabric is on then you punch the buttons through and use the tension tying in the back to create the indented pattern. Would save you a lot of carving time.

Kassandra Arguinzoni

Absolutely gorgeous! The fabric choice is so sumptuous.

Lauren Turek

Amazing!!!! You make this so less intimidating, can't wait to try it out!!! The room is coming together beautifully.

Killian Kincaide

Watching your videos is dangerous. I start them thinking I'll have a nice relaxing time listening to your advice, but I end up with an impulse to restart a dozen projects before the video is done.

Longwing

Watching you upholster is like asmr

Karl Beck

I loved the original pattern on the chair, I was kinda wishing you would find something similar :D but what you did looks amazingg either way! I always finish the video inspired!

Guiomar Martins

I just join your Patreon today and it´s my first private video. I’m so happy !

Emmanuelle BOREAU

I wondered what you were listening to while you worked on the chair?

Will Fisher

So excited to see the new video! ❤️

Pug Lover

The chair is stunning just like everything else that you do!

Anna Radaelli

Would be good to clean, and polish and touch up wood before putting on fabric.

jane urmston

Amazing! If you want to do less sawing with a serrated knife, you could look into getting an electric fish knife! Many of the foam pros I know use them, makes everything go a lot faster and makes it easier to carve.

Christy Cupcakes

Stunning chair! Lady, you can do anything. And you do!

Cynthia Bell

This is stunning. I just joined your Patreon and I am so happy that I did. I love the vanity and now have the desire to create my own versus buy one. Thank you for the lovely video!

NightJade

It is crazy how much I look forward to your posts!

Shelli Gwinn

Yeeees! Gave me ideas on how to tackle refurbishing 1890 gothic revival chairs I found! Wooo!

Joan Bishop

Ahhhhh! Thank you Christine ❤️

Emy AUBIN

Bucket list passion project for sure. Thanks!! I'm excited for all the pieces to come together

Jennifer Edwards

Uhull!! 😍

Maria L.

Fun! I just reupholsterd the seats of two cane chairs with an 'exotic' mid-century print, featuring hibiscus and elephants. 🌺🐘

Mardi Shakti

Great timing, I’m in a creative mood today and you’re just the right inspiration. I can’t wait to see it! 🖤

Judy Campanella

Oooh this is going to be fun💗 I love re upholstering furniture ~ difficult and challenging but I am always happy to take on a project. My first project was a channel back ding chair. The fabric is used was blue & white country toile! I was clueless and it took me forever! But I love it!

Deborah Wiltshire Whaley

You have no idea how excited and giggly I get when you post something! I panic and stop whatever I'm doing so I can watch you! You always make my day! 🥹🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇

Kuro Kaiju

Been waiting for this one ! Perks of working from home necessary breaks for Christine’s new video!

lindsay

Cannot wait to watch this, happy surprise 🖤
