A Victorian Vanity - From the Mind of Christine McConnell

Hello!!

I've been working on all of the elements for the guest room and wanted to share one of my favorite pieces so far... the vanity! The canopy bed drapery episode is still coming, but because it takes place in the near finished room, I'm holding off posting till the big reveal :))

Our April Livestream will be tomorrow at 5:00 PM EST and I'll be posting about that later tonight :D There we can chat about this episode and all the others that are on the way!

Definitely build new ones

Amber Hafferman

I'm catching up, so late to comment. Just wanted to point out that your address is visible on the shot of the back of the mirror towards the end! (Asuming it isn't common knowledge) Love this project and everything you do!

Deleana and Ryu the lucky black cat

This video has come at the perfect time for me!! One of my neighbors abandoned a beautiful old gilt frame in very rough shape. I snagged it because I couldn't stand to see it thrown away but I've honestly been to intimidated to restore it. Has anyone else had any luck restoring an old plaster frame like this? Would it be better to reattach the original broken plaster pieces (the mirror has a bag of broken plaster pieces nailed to the back) or build new ones from scratch like she did?

Courtney

I know I’m so late to this but worlds collide for me with Christine saying she’s a murderino 😍

Veronica Lara

Gorgeous! I love the shadow box.

Ashley Randolph

This was wonderful and so worth the watch. I joined just for this and now I am staying because of the quality.

NightJade

That is the most glorious vanity I have ever seen ! 😯

Ghostlymaiden7

MFM ROCKS! :) :) :) One of my favorite ep. is 356 - Tugboat of life :D I started listening them on the beggining of the covid, my lil sis recommended them. I was living all alone in the first time of my life (best timing ever..) and this podcast and your videos were everything to me in that times..

melyviiz

The vanity is just magnificent!! The creativity, focus and dedication you put into it is like watching any master at work. Speaking of which, I had switched over to an older video of yours a couple of years ago that I had never seen about painting. Being an animal person myself and having lost special paw babies throughout my life that painting of you and your beloved kitty cat just hit me so unexpectedly hard. Tears of sadness but tears of hope and happiness as well. Our paw babies are happy and content where they are now and they will be ecstatic when they see us again. A beautiful and so very special painting. Your life is a miracle to many. Thank you.

AnnLeilani#InSoCal

Wow! I’m just so amazed! I am so looking forward to seeing the final version!

Hannah Graham-de Vries

As always, Such an inspiration! By the way, I love your broach.

Victoria Elsom

WoW! WoW! WoW! I am totally blown away by your creativity and how you make things ALWAYS look so beautiful. Honestly, words cannot express just how amazing you are. My mind is completely blown. Thanx for that,,,now I have a major clean up job:)

David Stevenson

Wow! Looks amazing. I think I would maybe use a molding product on the existing part and make a little mold as well! I'm not the best sculptress.

Page Brunner

The side tables you used look exactly like my mom's hope chest that she has from her grandma!

Lia Michelle

WOW! I'm speechless. That vanity is breathtaking!

Amanda Lovell

It's absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to see the next installment!

Anna Wilson

This was magnificent you inspire me so much with my own house

Sam Hussey

Your talents abound and your skills have only gotten better over time. I am again in awe at your gifts and grateful to you for sharing with us all!

Dan De Young

Looks stunning - I love the scale of the mirror. It's so big and ornate, and you did a great job repairing it! I am looking forward to some satin-lined beauty with your handmade makeup cases displayed in the shadowbox, maybe?

Racheal Jones

That was incredibly enterprising of you to use Wayfair as one of your source elements for the vanity. Genius! I know it was incredibly costly, but the near end result photo stirred me to react out loud "Wow!" You are also super on the nose about trying to find antique or vintage end tables. My husband and I (for years) have been trying to find small wood matching (vintage or antique) end tables for our living room and it has been like the quest for the holy grail. Thanks to your tip we may look to a (new) furniture online marketplace as a possible source for our end tables! Another great tip of yours was to purchase damaged vintage or antique items and plan to doctor those up although I'm not terribly confident I would have the carpentry skills to repair those. I can draw a decent picture, but if I have to do anything involving eye/hand coordination I may lose a few digits or I might burn the house down by accident...with the best of intentions of course! One time I almost burned the house down by making a grilled cheese sandwich on the stove..A GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH!

Jenny McKinsey

I love that podcast, My Favorite Murder. Another you might enjoy if you like that is 30 Morbid Minutes. :)

Elizabeth Goldkind

It’s a beautiful vanity, so lovely ❤️

Victoria Gates

I’m not getting notifications from Patreon. I’ve checked my junk and nothing. Anyone else with this problem?

Bo Silves

It really does look like it was all meant to be together from the start, what a beautiful piece!

Julia

Wow ! Beautiful !♥️♥️

Tammy Wilson

When I die, I want to haunt Christine's house.

Jennifer Treviño

"I have terrible penmanship free hand." - says the woman who free hand painted her dining room to match the antique wall paper. Lol

Jane Good

So lovely, what a stunning accomplishment. Congrats!

Tracy

Podcast # 105 and 129

Sufani Garza

That was amazing Christine. So beautiful! You are a true artist. All the way down to the embellishments. Loved watching this. Thank you!

Sufani Garza

Can’t wait to watch when we ge home- this needs the big Tv to view!

Jennifer Carter

I love how you showed that you can still take a new piece or two and repurpose it to fit in seamlessly with a stunning 100 year old piece- the marriage between the new and old was perfection. Loved this episode, and I think we are all getting more and more jazzed to see the guest room come all together!

Meagan Underwood

Beautiful and amazing work as always! What was the thought process to build up the missing pieces from plaster instead of carving wood pieces and then a light plaster layer over that? So curious!

Jerilyn Campbell

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Ester Brunini

I was really on the fence about the "foux wood" technique... and then you showed the end pictures and I GAGED!!! This is such an outstanding piece I just can't!!! PERFECTION

Howard Brook

Honestly!!!!!! 🤯what can’t she do x

Cee Fee

Absolute perfection!

Paige Phoa

It came out so beautiful!!! You always nail the faux texture, it's wonderful!!

Elizabeth Yáñez

I'm so impressed by what you've done!! It's a vanity fit for a queen!

Amanda Williams

Beautiful work! You can also buy aerosol wood toner used for color correction. An antique furniture restorer, Thomas Johnson, discusses his techniques for glazing and toning in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF1o5iD2pYs). If you enjoy other miracle workers, he's one to watch.

Leslie Powell

I am ALWAYS amazed at your talent (I shouldn’t be by this point) but this is absolutely stunning!

Debra S. Apostol

It’s so funny to me that you just started listening to My Favorite Murder because I learned about YOU from them!! They mentioned your Netflix show years ago, and now everything has come full circle. 😆

Leslie

To make your faux wood warmer, try using bright yellow and orange stripes instead of beige as your base coat. I used this technique for years as a scenic artist for theater. It looks insane when you first start, but the final product has an incredible amount of depth and life.

Leslie

Can anyone else see the face in the uppermost part of the mirror? It reminds me of the faun from Pan’s Labyrinth.

Sara Estridge

Beautiful as always

Sharon Draws

Amazing ❤

Janeen

Amazing.

Kristell Havens

its kinda annoying how talented you are! LOL

Rez NYC

Haha Stay Sexy Christine - and don't get murdered!! 👍

Danielle Manuelito

Wow my jaw dropped! You have miracle hands!! Wow I LOVED IT!!

Martha Soria

What a gorgeous piece of furniture! You are amazingly talented! I can not wait til we get to see the room complete!

Diane McCarty

This is one of the most beautiful pieces you have created...and that's saying something!

Mariana Escobedo

Gilded Age aesthetic! Very nice, C, thanks.

Alaskan Rock Vodka

Absolutely amazing transformation ❤️ but can we talk about the wooden horn beside you? Is that a Victor Monarch?

Courtney McCanlis

I am so impressed, as usual, with your sculpting abilities! If you're looking for a new podcast, I highly recommend The Morbid Curiosity Podcast. There are some true crime episodes, but she covers a whole range of morbid topics like creepy folklore, horrific artifacts, disasters at sea, catacombs and cemeteries, and even the Winchester Mystery House. Speaking of which, I was in San Jose last weekend, so of course I had to visit Sarah's amazing home. I swear there was still a faint aroma of gingerbread...😸

Mina Murray

After years of my friends suggesting "My Favorite Murder" to me I finally started listening to them just a couple of weeks ago and totally agree they are so much fun!

Prissy Witch NJ

This is a incredible stunning piece 🤩you are amazing and so so gifted 💓

Lorena zitelli

A very impressive work once again ! And a great source of inspiration to me. Can't wait for the reveal!

Emy AUBIN

That is magnificent! Are you the most magical person who ever lived?

Alyne Whiteswan

Wonderful!!! Thank you for sharing your talent and visions.

Nel

It came out beautifully! I get Snow White vibes with the "carved" wood and glass shadowbox. As I've said before, I'm in awe of what you can do.

Leslie Langenegger

I’m always amazed and impressed. I love how you changed the night stands. I’m inspired to do mine. What a transformation of the mirror. I've had to do some minor repair on moulding that way. Nothing compared to what you've done. What patience you have. I'm excited for the reveal. Thank your parents for making you possible! 🦉

Stephanie

Your patience level just astounds me! I too thought you were be making a mold of the intact pieces to replace the damaged areas, but thinking about it, I guess it wouldn't work trying to flip it for the other side? I haven't done much furniture repair so I'm not sure. This finished piece is just so beautiful I don't have words for it!

Deb McGrath

Absolutely beautiful 💕 Cannot wait to see the finished room🦉

Amy Bainbridge

Truly though. I audibly gasped when I saw the almost-finished shot. Breathtaking!

Maria Gress

Impressive! I assumed you'd be making a mold for the mirror's detail, and somehow involving sketching it out first, or other Christinnerisms, but nope! You just started slapping that stuff on there and manipulating it with your magic witch fingers. I adore you! 🖤

Maria Gress

I love this custom vanity! I have a vanity in every guest room of my home💗 I can’t wait to see the finished room!

Deborah Wiltshire Whaley

The piping bag of plaster would have worked much better if you had used actual cake decorating tips. I've done this myself when decorating a G.I.Joe castle for my son. It takes some finagling to get the thickness exactly right, but once it's the same as frosting the tips work fabulously.

Saltywench

Elegant beyond belief!! It's a masterpiece of masterpieces!

Anna Radaelli

Extraordinary! Can't wait to show husband.

Cynthia Bell

YAY!!!!!! This is going to be an even greater day now!!!!!!

Killian Kincaide

Just beautiful! It has so much personality, it almost feels like a living thing. ❤️. BRAVO, Christine!

Christina Galaviz

This new background music is very ominous. It's awesome!!

Ashley

Amazing! As always I've learned new tricks and inspired to create. I've tried to smuggle that citrus stripper into canada many times via Amazon... but customs always catches it 🙄 no idea why it's banned here

Angela Pearson

What fun this is to watch! Thank you for sharing your woodgraining process with us again. I see you are using your Createx transparent colors again for tinting. I love that you experiment and use what works for you. The possibilities are endless!

Michelle Lofthouse

Oh wow! It looks amazing!

Jacki

Yes, so excited! Thank you, Christine.

Mononoke Adams

What a great episode!!! It turned out so well. You would never know that it was several pieces mixed together. Beautiful!!

Bobby Champlin

Ok. So I'm going to try so hard to get the time right for the livestream. I'm in South Australia so hopefully google will work it out for me😁 Seriously excited about all of this 🖤🖤

Liana Palumbo

Thank you Ashley! That is actually going to be in one of the episode that is coming! It will be incorporated into the decorating episode :D

Christine McConnell

Talk about unlucky it's the third livestream I cannot attent because of work.. but super excited I can watch this new episode!

Dennis

I feel blessed everytime you upload!!

Tarabee

🙌🖤 can't wait to get home and watch this!!

Emily Schwall

I couldn’t be more excited to watch this!!

Jessica Douget

Thank you for the inspiration! A video on how you think abouy setting the room the way you do would be awesome!

Ashley

Omg this made my day I couldn’t be more excited! I swear your videos are the only thing I look forward too
