I hope you've all been well and enjoy this fun episode! This Saturday and Sunday I will be appearing at Midsummer Scream in Long Beach CA.
As a thank you for being here and supporting this series, I've arranged a special meet and greet for Patrons only after SATURDAY'S panel. It should roughly be from 5:45-6:45 PM in a designated room after the panel.
The Password to enter is "CREATING WITH CHRISTINE" Once you come into the room, I will do my best to talk to everyone! In addition, the Captive and I will take photos with anyone who wants one. If you have a friend or family member with you, they will also be admitted :))
Tickets for this weekend can be found at https://midsummerscream.org and it is a WILDLY fun event if you've never been! Its location is at the Long Beach Convention Center 300 E Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90802. and just an FYI, I've been told tickets for this Saturday are expected to sell out.
I'm so excited to see whoever is able to make it and to say thank you in person for making all of this possible. I have TWO GOLD BAT passes for the first two patrons to comment with their email address. The two winners will each receive an all access pass to this weekend's event via the email address given.
The July livestream will take place the first week of August once I'm back home. Recipe for todays episode will be published next month for tier 2 and up :))

I live in Iowa where mulberry trees abound in fence rows & tree lines where most people don't want them, as they're often considered invasive since birds will bring their seeds into unwanted places! However, I've always found them to be delicious and as a kid would ride my horse up under our mulberry tree and we would both eat them off the branches. Thanks for using them and making this delicious-looking confection! :)

If you have outdoor furniture with light cushions, or a hammock or anything you wouldn't want stained with splotches of purple, you need to watch out at this time of year. Birds loooooove mulberries and the berries turn their poop purple and it can stain.

2022-07-27 20:38:45 +0000 UTCAbout picking Mulberries (as opposed to the shake method)- You want to pick them when they are fully black. if there is any red or white then they will be tart. Fully black they're nice and sweet. They're also really juicy and soft so when you pick them you very gently roll them with the pads of your fingers, soft fleshy part only. If they're properly ripe the soft rolling motion will twist them and pop them right off the branch. If they don't pop off they're not fully ripe, move on. DO NOT SQUEEZE. When ripe they are so soft they will burst in your fingers, the juices will run down your arm, and they stain anything they touch. Your skin, your clothes- and it's color fast to boot!

Even though red mulberry is native to Indiana (and to pretty much the entire eastern half of the U.S.), they grow so fast and in such profusion that we mostly treat them weed trees. But they are terrific for feeding wildlife and as a sacrifice crop to save your other fruit trees.

Your pie looked amazing! I usually use minute tapioca to thicken fruit pies. It makes a lovely clear filling and never tastes starchy.

Eating or licking just a small amount of the pollen can cause your fur baby to develop fatal kidney failure in less than 3 days.

The only trouble is, they're so delicious they never make it into the house for baking. I stand under the tree and eat them right then and there! Mulberries have always played a large role in Appalachian food ways.
