Easter Egg Craft Along!! This Saturday at 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time

Hello!!!

This Saturday we are doing something experimental!! We are going to attempt to dye plastic easter eggs by filling them with marbles to start, then spray painting them with a matte egg white paint! From there we will dye them the old fashioned way!... or sort of, we've still got to make them spooky and different ;)

My thought is that this way you can keep them for future use, it's animal friendly AND you can fill them with candy once they're dry!

I'm going to preface this by saying maybe this will work, maybe it won't, but let's find out together and have some fun while we try!

I'll leave the supplies I'm planning to have on hand below...

Plastic eggs

Marbles

Matte egg white spray paint

Egg coloring kit

Masking tape

Exacto blade

fine point paint brushes

Additional acrylic paints

Oh! and candy for eating!!!

And a light sand paper or magic eraser to scuff up the plastic eggs before painting them! - Thank you Jackie Antes for this suggestion! :D

There are TWO new episodes coming this month and I know you are going to love them :))

I'll be chatting a bit about them both this Saturday! Cant wait to see you!

Easter Egg Craft Along!! This Saturday at 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time

Ostara is not what you think, it's origins lie in a story from the 1830s... https://blogs.loc.gov/folklife/2016/04/ostara-and-the-hare/

Fellowship of the Broom

I think Abby is just pointing out that many Christian holidays have Pagan roots. Not that Christians can't be witches. ❤

Morgan

Are you under the impression that witches can't be Christians?

Morticia Kensington

Easter was originally called Ostara and the pagans celebrated the holiday first. Calling is Easter shows the Christian side and not the witch flying the broom side.

Abby T

I love the Easter outfit!!!

Jay Cee

Love the Easter witch photo! I was hoping people might be into Ukrainian Easter eggs this year--I had a friend in Alaska who used to make them and they're amazing.

Elizabeth Scarborough

Hi Christine I just watched this…there are wooden tillable eggs that you can beautifully dye with RIT from Golden Cockerel https://www.goldencockerel.com/en-us/easter-eggs/blanks-and-craft-supplies/blank-hollow-wooden-egg-275-inches.html

Ashley Page Toth

i guess i should have assumed i needed to spray the eggs ahead of time

Jupiter Sagan

I'm hoping these are photo shopped bunnies

B

No white spray paint...black it is!! The Anti-Egg😈🔥

CRAFT-A-LONG QUESTION! What are some crafts/projects you have no interest in? I will be unable to attend the live stream. Thank you in advance if my question gets answered.

Scribby Scribner

I love the photo!!! So excited to be able to attend something live for the first time.

Brandy Gunter

The photo is fierce

I so wish I could watch this as it was happening. Unfortunately, I work weekends. I think I will get to see some of it as I'm getting ready ( I work nights), but I wouldn't get a chance to try to make it before Easter. This is one of those times I wish we had a place to post members "follow-along-crafts" to see what they have done. Christine is an amazing artist and teacher, I bet she inspires some incredible eggs (art) to be produced! :)

Deb McGrath

Maybe it's ok to spray paint just the outside, which doesn't touch the candy inside. But yeah, ventilation needed for those paints. I wonder if the paints people use for painting models for stuff like Warhammer would work. I think they come in little bottles?

miz vitko

What an eggstrordinary idea! {Sorry, bad pun. I couldn't help myself.}

Linda Chandler

Shopping trip to the craft store! Looking forward to tomorrow's craft along!

Kris

Going to see if I can scrounge up these supplies or something similar in work today. I work in a craft store but our Easter stock has been ravaged 😂

Sarah Kane

Very excited for this craft along. Thank you, Christine!

Mononoke Adams

This is a fabulous photo! Can't wait for spooky eggs!

Camilla Brasher

Can't wait to see how you "spookify" some eggs! Bet they'll look great on a black tree for Halloween. See everyone on Saturday afternoon.

Leslie Langenegger

I love this idea! I also love that it's animal-friendly and a keepsake, and most of all that they're going to be a bit spooky!!!

Riona O'Faoladh

This sounds super fun! Can't wait!

Rexington Funk

Good idea! Everyday should be Halloween!!🧟‍♀️🕸🎃

Amanda Upchurch

LOVE IT! I am going to hit up Hobbit Lobby tuh-day!🐰🐇🐣🕸🧟‍♀️🧚‍♀️🧝‍♀️

Amanda Upchurch

can’t wait to watch !

Kitty Lang

That's what she said... 😉

Amanda Upchurch

This past Halloween, Target had plastic egg jack-o-lanterns. Possibly you could decorate the eggs as spiders, jack-o-lanterns, and ghosts?

NightshadeButterfly

This sounds like so much fun! My sister and I might actually change around weekend plans to join :)

Sara Matano

You look wonderful

Vicky

I wonder how the paint will work out on these too! Plastic is a finicky mistress. Word of warning, i would make sure to wait a WHILE before putting any candy in the eggs. The fumes will totally permeate and make it all the candy taste like sugary spray paint.

Ren Manley

Fabulous photo!

Deborah Wiltshire Whaley

Oh what fun ~ on my way for supplies now!

Deborah Wiltshire Whaley

I literally cannot wait to see your spooky eggs.

Karysa HorrorHoneysKitchen

Ok if it doesn't bond to the plastic, it'll just flake off into your food eventually i guess. All spray paints need ventilation. They all have nasty fumes. Plastic itself is kinda bad idk

Kareem

Kareem, judging from what I read about using Krylon paint spray, it's got some nasty fumes and should only be used outdoors. I'm sure it would stick well, but I wonder if you want to use it for what is going to be a decorative food container?

miz vitko

Can get a matte plastic spray primer. I used it to refinish my daughters plastic castles. krylon spray

Kareem

Make sure you get the paint that bonds to plastic!

Kareem

Yayy sounds awesome. You look amazing 😍 Happy Easter from Ireland xxx

HannaBird

Im happy i could give you a pointer, iv had my fare share of disappointing plastic projects😄. I hope this pans out but i know youll make it work either way, i cant wait to tune in Saturday.

Jackie Antes

I'll be on a Camping Trip, but hopefully I'll have reception and I can watch !! 💜🖤🦇💜🖤🦇💜🖤

Danielle Gutierrez

I work Saturday so I'll have to watch it Sunday! I look forward to seeing the results of your experiment!

Samantha Graham

This is a FANTASTIC suggestion!! I can’t thank you enough for sharing this idea and saving me from a catastrophe! ♥️🤗♥️

Christine McConnell

So excited!!! Love the photo! ☺️

Briana Carney

Such a cool idea! Love the photo too!

Paranormal Kativity

Omg I love this idea AND I love that photo! 🖤🧹 My easter decor is super witchcraft oriented.

Robots Bath Water

Looking forward to it!!! 🖤

Carla Perea Seminaro

Love it, but maybe a small question: How are you hovering above the broom? You do not appear to be sitting on it ;) XD

Tim van den Berg

Easter bunnies!!!

Racheal Jones

I’ll be watching, my eggs will probably look like painted turds if I even tried. Haha looking forward to it!

Rez NYC

Happy Easter Christine!

Rez NYC

So exciting. It's after midnight here in South Australia and I got all excited when I saw the patreon notification come up 😊

Liana Palumbo

Smooth plastic eggs wont take a coat of spray paint and a water/vinegar soke well without peeling, id skuff up the exterior with a magic eraser quite extensively to help fix that and it'll give it a matt texture.

Jackie Antes

Love it! My nine year old loves your art. I hope she grows up like you. Lol

Honey Do

Yay! I love experiments!
