Christine, it looks to me like a 'seersucker' type fabric. In the summertime (1980's) we used to wear beautiful flowy type skirts. I wanted one in black; couldn't find one so I made my own that was over the top with a corset lace closure. If needed, it's great for layering . In the iconic 'From The Mind' fashion, broke out the black fabric dye in black. I think I had to dye it multiple times, but in the end. I was very happy with it. Talking about this makes me want to make one again.

I think it’s so awesome you found someone who is totally on the same page as you regarding your aesthetic etc :) xo. This was awesome I’ll definitely be trying it this weekend as it’s a long weekend for Canadian Thxgiving. As much as I love the longer projects, I love the shorter projects too. It’s nice to have both to watch :) I’m grateful for whatever you do for us but am super excited to try this as it’s more my talent level lol.

Someone may have already answered your fabric question in earlier comments that I haven’t yet seen, but regarding your unknown fabric, my best guess would be moss crepe. Of course it’s so hard to tell without feeling the material, but if you’re wanting to confirm fiber content you could always run a burn test!

2021-10-03 05:17:33 +0000 UTCFirst off. Be warned. This is a messy craft to do. But also satisfying. The non-stick spray and light dusting with flour worked perfectly. I've completed my first mask of my comedy and tragedy masks. The material I use was Muslim. It didn't seem to have the stringing issues that Christine was having with her mask. So I don't know if it was the right material or not. The only problem I had was the mass did not Brown in the oven. Perhaps I didn't keep it in there long enough. But it was nothing a little bit of paint wasn't able to fix. The only other tip I can give that I just discovered is wait for the mass to dry completely. That way when you do the drilling of the holes work a lot better that way. I wish somebody who had a better knowledge of things would create a discord page. That way we can show up our creations. Sadly the comment section does not allow us to post pictures.

You could carve wood blocks in creepy but beautiful patterns then negotiate with a wallpaper company with the right equioment and set-up - like Adelfi Paper Hangings .com to use their press. If it smells like burning plastic and melts at all (like the burnt part has little hard globules) there's a synthetic element to the fabric. If it smells like burning hair and turns to ash- its all natural. I think we'll need more info to figure out the exact fabric- a close up of the weave pattern would give us more insight.
