2021-07-19 21:15:23 +0000 UTCThose pancakes! :) Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein after "the year without a summer". A huge weather event temperatures dropped, crop failures, famine very sad. No one knew for years what caused it (no social media lol). A volcano, Mount Tambora, in the Indian Ocean erupted and the ash went into the atmosphere blocking out the sun in most of Europe even in the US. Very gloomy weather! I haven't listened to the book but plan to, did not know it was so sad. Also read Darkness by Lord Byron who they spent that summer with.

It’s a little piece of Europe in Canada 🇨🇦, with its cobblestone streets and stunning buildings from hundreds of years ago! It’s known as the city of a hundred bell towers because there are so many gorgeous old churches as well! Everyone will speak English with you, but boy would it thrill the locals if you learned a few french phrases! I think it would be just what you’re looking for and it’s only a few hours from NY!

I wasn't permitted to have Barbies, my mother said Barbie was a bimbo (sorry Barbie fans), and Prudence wouldn't have known what to do with a Barbie if it bit her, so we played with our Madame Alexander dolls like most little girls play with Barbie. Chauncey/Laurie was a gift Prudence received when we grew concerned that we didn't have a Rhett Butler-Ashley Wilkes-Laurie Laurence-Almanzo Wilder-Prince Charming for Scarlett-Melanie-Jo- Laura-Girl in Every Orphan Girl Story We'd Ever Read (Prudence and I were way into late 19the century orphan-girl fiction). Chauncey/Laurie was a large doll. The rest of our dolls were the smaller ones. We got over it. Sorry he's become such a source of consternation. It must've been a rough 45 years for Chauncey/Laurie (turned him bad to the bone, or perhaps he always was a little creepy!)
