I'm a professional florist and the foam Christine has used here is actually meant for fresh flowers and will break down over time. The grey rigid foam is the one that's meant for artificial and will last forever. So if you intend on keeping the arrangement for years to come then I would suggest using the grey foam. But if you've never done an arrangement before then the green foam is easier to work with until you get the hang of it. It will still last quite a while.

For some reason my mind was telling me that the foam was only for fresh/real flowers. Slicing the foam into thin strips to fit the tall narrow vase seems like such an obvious thing to do, but again, something my brain hadn't thought of!
