Gothic Napkin making livestream craft-A-Long! Saturday 3:00PM (EST) Feb 27th

Hello!!

OK! Change of plans for this month...

I designed this unique napkin which we had been filming and was going to be this month's standard episode, BUT I am realizing it might be more useful to you if I show you how to make it from start to finish instead of a short video. This also enables me to explain in real time all the hurdles I hit in it's design. PLUS you can ask questions as we go!

This will be this Saturday at 3:00 PM (EASTERN TIME) I apologize for the mixup in the movie night livestream earlier this month (which was a blast btw), I accidentally put the wrong time zone in the initial post and once changed, didn't realize your emailed version didn't update! :O

It's short notice I realize, so if you're not able to get the supplies in time, you can watch this whenever you want and the end result will be well worth it! PLUS if the longform format isn't your thing, I'll leave all the crucial details in the text below and you can skim over the craft along afterward! :D

Things you will need:

The pattern:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2bma1nyymidiks3/AAD1RAea7M49Yj6JzElEaI26a?dl=0

Fabric of your choice cut to 27"X27 inches (This is closer to a buffet napkin size)

Napkin ring

All purpose thread

Sewing machine

Spray starch

Iron and ironing board

Embroidery hoop (this is for monogramming, so a smaller size is best)

Exacto blade

Disappearing ink pen or fine point marker

Scissors + very small fine scissors for cutting ultra close to the hem

Paper, pencil, erasers and tape for making patterns

Fuse-N-Tear (Tear-Away embroidery Stabilizer)

(You can buy this at any Joann Fabric) https://www.joann.com/fuse-n-tear-12-in-x-12-yards/11385192.html

Tips to know beforehand:

1) I dyed my fabric to a shade of deep muted pink and am using a lighter shade of muted pink thread for contrast. FYI: Natural fabrics are easier to dye.

2) My first napkin was a dud, so for the purposes of saving your sanity, maybe craft along with scrap fabric and thread to practice with! It takes some troubleshooting and you may not love your first one

3) The pattern is meant to be printed out on 9 sheets of 8.5X11 paper and taped together like a puzzle, so do that before the livestream starts if you can.

4) If you decide to get this pre-prepped before Saturday, Spray starch and iron your fabric before attempting to mark it! I wish I had done this the first time.

The dining room episodes are coming next month and are going to blow your mind! :D

See you Saturday!

-Christine

Thank you

Summer Rose Barnes

Not sure if she replied to you, but always wash your fabric first if you intend to use it to avoid shrinkage/colourun when you do get around to washing the finished piece 😊

Nikki-lea

Did you wash/ dry the fabric first?

Summer Rose Barnes

This is amazing!

Is there anyway you could make a version of the pattern that prints on European standard AT paper for those of us outside the US?

Emily

This is so pretty! Always have such great ways to add a spooky glam to any room

Samuel Gomez

I just inherited my Grandparent's 55 year old table (the first piece of furniture they purchased when they emigrated to Australia) so this will compliment it so perfectly!

If we do I was hoping for Sleepy Hollow with Johnny Depp and Christina Rocco . Yes ? πŸ€“

Angell Cloxen

Looks like there’s a very dense zigzag stitch all around the edges of the napkin.

Maren Mehus

Yesss!! Also the movie night was so fun! I hope we can do it again πŸ™‚

Lauren M

Dropping everything and speeding to Joann now. 😭

Hi folks, I know we use the #creatingwithchristine on Instagram etc for when we share our efforts to tackle Christine's creations, but is there a Facebook group or a Discord group (not that I have ever used Discord, but my partner's friends all use it for the Dungeons & Dragons chat) where we can chat with each other and share all our projects and inspirations, get advice from each other and discuss pitfalls when crafting etc?? If one exists, I'd really appreciate if someone would share the link. If not, then I will happily set up a private Facebook group if others were likely to join and use it for said purposes. Please comment or tag me and let me know, either way :)

Tadgh Kirby

I am so damn excited for this!

Marina salinas

I can’t waaaaaait!!!!!!! The napkin looks awesome

Ricky Cheung

Ooooo fun! I only have my 1920s machine working, is that ok or do i need a zig zag or like another stitch which isn't just straight πŸ˜‚

Amy Watler-Thomas

What us it with my schedule this month and the Livestreams? I'll have to catch this one on replay also as I'll be in the middle of a class. I can't wait -- I love sewing projects!

Mina Murray

What kind of fabric do you recommend? My first instinct is to go with linen.

Ashley T

I am so excited can’t wait

Vicky

WOW, is there a link? I'm having a hard time not putting these into my cart. LOL

Sonja Tompkins

Sonja Tompkins

Awesome! Another gals hangout! Looking forward to it. I'll bake while watching you all. ;)

Christina Galaviz

Excuse me but I believe the correct name for these napkins should be "batkins."

Pamela White

How awesome!!

Brenda Hunt

Cool - I just found a cheap alternative to Disappearing ink pens - Crayola Ultra-Clean Washable Markers. They're in most Grocery stores and they come in all colors!

Aunt Debbie Halloween

Fun! I'll try to craft along, just need to get all of the supplies together in time.

Laura InkapΓΆΓΆl
