(Artificial) Victorian Floral Craft-Along this SUNDAY at 9:00 AM PST + an UPDATE :D

I am STILL working on the two BIG episodes! So I thought, let's do a craft-along so we can catch up while also doing something fun!
The reason for the episode delay is; this house has sat un-lived in for about 20 years and making it functionally liveable and safe for the pets and my captive was a bigger challenge than I anticipated... One of these challenges have been these ADORABLE little bats that I've been safely releasing outside :D
That said, I've NEVER been more excited about an episode as I am for the two that are coming and I hope the delay isn't too frustrating. The episodes will be posted at the end of next week :D
So in the meantime, I'm going to do a Victorian floral arrangement CraftAlong
Sunday Morning the 30th at 9:00AM PST! (I'm sticking with a familiar time zone to avoid causing confusion for now)
Things you'll need for this are:
A vase
Floral foam (Or I even use rocks and dry earth sometimes to balance the weight)
Wire cutters
Artificial flowers, stems, greens, accent's etc...
(I typically buy a bunch of options (holding them all together in the store to make sure the colors all work together) and end up using about 75% on the planned arrangement.
If you don't have time to get supplies before Sunday, this will also just be a fun stream to watch with some coffee or tea. I'll be sharing a bunch of useful tips which you can implement later on.
I hope you are all well and as one last teaser; I'll be giving an exciting update on my forest home in this livestream, which I can't wait to share :D

Lovely little bat. They are great for getting rid of mosquitos, which here in Michigan, like to swarm us all summer long. My hubby and I enjoy sitting around a campfire and waiting at dusk to see the bats, silhouetted against the twilight sky, fluttering and swooping after their haul of insects.

2020-08-30 20:56:50 +0000 UTCThere’s a wonderful book called The Sixth Extinction (it won a Pulitzer) with an entire chapter about how bats are slowly becoming extinct. It explains what that fungus on their mouths is-it’s a psychrophile (called Geomyces destructans) that was accidentally imported to the US, most likely from Europe. In the US it was first discovered in caves around Albany, NY. It’s so sad. The fungus eats away at the bats’ skin and causes them to use up their fat stores which get them through the winter. They either starve or get so dehydrated they die :-(

If I remember correctly they released then 10 miles away from our house. It was something to do with the distance of their radar??? They can get in the smallest space.

I won't be able to watch the craft along live as I'm in UK, but I will certainly stream it at a later date. 2020-08-27 15:34:31 +0000 UTCPlease be super careful In handling bats, as I’m sure you would be. We have them here in Massachusetts and they are protected and can’t be moved until the fall. If you can figure out how they’re getting in you can always make a bat tube. We had to do that in our 140+-year-old house, they slide down the plastic tube and then can’t get back in the attic. It is amazing though how they continue to find cracks in the framing, we have a couple up there now and are waiting to get them relocated. Best of luck I know personally old houses are wonderful but the work can seem endless.

I know in NYC, if a bat is in your home with your pets, the city will send folks to take any unvaxxed pets and put them down, even if there was no direct contact :'-( - I dog-sat for a nice old lady some time ago who lost her kitty that way. It was a house cat, so she never bothered with rabies vaccine for it, but then a bat got in her apartment, it got reported, and they came and took her kitty away (not the dog, because it had all the shots). :''-( - SOOO terrible! I'd make sure it's not a STATE policy, just in case!

Second to bees, bats are amazing pollinators and GREAT for pest control too! I adore bats, but having them in your house is definitely a problem lol
