Mask Pattern :D
Added 2020-05-28 14:02:35 +0000 UTC
Goodmorning!
So sorry I've been quiet, I've been working non-stop on three REALLY exciting things and the first of those will be coming in just a few days :D
I mentioned in the last live stream that I had attempted to make a mask and after getting frustrated that the color wasn't very flattering I abandoned it :P After mentioning it though, several people asked for the pattern, so I did draft one up and think with some tweaking, it could end up being really neat.
If you use and improve this design, please send me any pictures, Id love to see what you come up with :D
(The printable pattern should show up as a downloadable PDF in this post)
Hope you've been well and I'll See you VERY soon! :)))

I think that if you had used a different color scheme or shade of pink maybe with white and black or something, you would have liked it better.

I really love this mask. Did anyone else notice that she is wearing it in her new video when she is at her new house? I'm glad that I am not the only one keeping my fingers crossed for a craft along video to make this. Has anyone made one? Any tips on materials? I am wondering if she used some sort of interfacing between layers to make it so sturdy.

This is the most beautiful mask i've seen yet. I can't wait to try making one! For anyone who ended up making this, would you mind sharing the diameter of the cap you used? I want to try 3D printing one. Thank you in advance <3

Thank you so much for the pattern pieces and more importantly the layout of the pattern pieces. I have been dying to make this mask but unable to figure out how the pieces fit together. I am so excited to finally get to work on this mask verses the more traditional ones. You art is so beautiful. One of my special "captives" has a thing for me in masks. I hope I do your pattern justice. Thank you as always fr the inspiration.

Since N95s are respirators but this mask has fabric with a filter, what are y’all using to make sure air doesn’t come through the fabric, only through the filter? I was thinking of lining between the inner and outer layers with some of that thin plastic/vinyl “fabric” they have in the upholstery sections. Thoughts, suggestions?

She mentioned she used the cap and threaded section of a jewelry cleaner jar. So just measure the diameter and start hunting around the house!

I actually loved the mask looking like Miss Piggy. It is more approachable and child friendly and next year the teachers and staff are supposed to be wearing a mask to school. I could even pin a sight word of the day to it.

I bought my sheets straps, I have a few options for the lid....I’m thinking of craft foam for the base...what did everyone else use? Can’t decide for the sides of mask...also what the heck does the lid screw in to? Thoughts?

Yeah, I was wondering about the center nose piece (with the filter), too!
I foresee a problem with the hot glue, though. You probably want to wash the mask at least once in a while, so if the center nose piece is glued on the mask, the glue might not survive the washing cycle intact, since you need to wash the masks at least at 60°C, or at 140°F.

I taped together a paper mock up of this. Thoughts I've had so far - attach section 5 and 6 together before attaching them to section 4. I started taping at 1 and fanned my way out each direction one section at a time. When I got to the bottom I fastened the 5/6 sections to each other. My mock up didn't take into consideration when the straps should be attached or how to mount the entire structure to the center nose piece, although I think that step was probably done with either hot glue or e6000.

As well as information on what materials you used...your picture above dont really clarify it for me. Thanks so much!!

You're brilliant, thank you for sharing these! For the mask you've made - might there be any dyes you could carefully apply to help change the overall aesthetic? It's possible that simply changing the colour could make a big difference in how it reads, visually! xoxoxox

A quick question on the pattern, Christine. Is there a seam allowance built into the pattern, and if so, what is the width? Thanks!

2020-05-28 15:03:04 +0000 UTC
I considered that, but then realized you need both parts of a screw cap and the base of a mason jar is glass. I ended up cutting the top off of a plastic container for Jewelry cleaner. If you start looking around your house, you'll find there's all sorts of things with that diameter plastic cap :D
