R.I.P. DMX Earl Simmons

9th April 2021 will be remembered as another sad day for the hip-hop culture... because another rap legend has passed away. Many contemporary youngsters might remember DMX as controversial figure showing up in TMZ newsreels, old school heads might remember him as the guy who came out with few notable multiselling albums having that unusual rough 'dog' appeal that was more street, coarse and not so polished as Snoop Dogg's. Say what you want about the man, but he was talented and achieved much as a rapper.

I would not call myself the biggest DMX fan since his peak coincided with the era after golden age, 2Pac and B.I.G. But in between 1998 - 2005 he was mad dope and was one of those rare guys who really killed it mainstream... Unfortunately, X's life had been rough for the last decade with many bad things including run-ins with the law, addictions etc. Despite that, he was recently talking about a new album and reunion with Def Jam.

Unfortunately, his demons caught up with him few days ago when he overdosed, and today passed away being unable to recover. This makes me so sad, because I would definitely love to see him making that new album and get back in music. You, mister, are, were and always be THE LEGEND!

My condolences to DMX's family and all his fans, and many millennials I know grew up listening to his tracks...

I guess I will watch Belly tonight. X was one of biggest highlights in that otherwise forgettable movie. + I will try to revive some X vibes in our blog by uploading the tribute batch soonish.

R.I.P.

I will leave here the dope mix by FULLBLAST RADIO celebrating his 50th birthday last year.
