While the Gods have returned Andromeda to Earth as a heroine with celestial powers, Poseidon has sabotaged her with a significant weakness.
Long ago, Andromeda's mother Queen Cassiopeia boasted that Princess Andromeda was more beautiful than the Nereids, sea nymphs that were favored by Poseidon. The God of the Seas flooded Cassiopeia's kingdom and demanded the sacrifice of the princess, ordering that she be bound to a rock as an offering for the Kraken. Andromeda was saved by Perseus, but Poseidon has never truly forgiven the queen or the princess.
To ensure that she remains humble before the might of the Gods, Andromeda is stripped of her celestial powers whenever she is bound. Once restrained, Andromeda becomes as vulnerable as any mortal woman. Binding her is not an easy task, but a few villains have been clever (or lucky) enough to exploit this perilous weakness.
