Amazon Arrow's Shooting Gallery

Hi, Everyone!

I spent the weekend making HUGE progress on the Amazon Arrow Visual Novel. I really wanted to find some way to have you shoot at targets as the Amazon Arrow during the course of this game and I've been struggling to find a way to do it within the limited Visual Novel Maker software capabilities. While the software does a pretty good job of providing the framework for a visual novel, it's really not designed to make games at all and it has extremely limited documentation, so it's a little like squeezing blood from a stone. That said, I think the simple games and puzzles are what brings visual novels to life and makes them feel immersive, so it's worth the effort to figure this out in my opinion.

So... after two days filled with lots of trial and error I managed to get it done!

Basically it's a pop-up target game. You have a limited amount of time to shoot an arrow at a Brotherhood soldier when he pops up by clicking one of the three attack buttons at the bottom of the screen.  Soldiers pop up one after the other and you have a limited number of arrows to shoot them all. Too many misses and you won't have enough arrows left to fight the remaining soldiers! Too slow and they'll shoot you first! But if you're fast enough and accurate enough to take out the entire army of Brotherhood soldiers like a true Amazon Champion, then you'll win the minigame to move on with the next part of the story!

And if you get shot... well, that unlocks a quick ending scene that you might like as well.

I have two more minigames that I still need to figure out how to make. An "escape room" where you have to free yourself and AA from captivity by finding clues and objects hidden throughout the room, and one more "finale" combat system where you face off with the Big Bad. i haven't quite figure out what I want to do for that last one yet. I'm sure I'll think of something. Then I just have to render a ton of artwork and string it all together with a few connecting scenes and that's it!

I definitely have a new-found respect for game developers. There's a very good reason why people make these things as part of a design TEAM, rather than as a one woman weekend warrior.

When (and if) I get this thing done, it will go to my beloved Patreon supporters first! YOU are the folks that are making this possible.

Peace!
