Crystal Vengeance

The damp, earthy tunnels of Shhandra's once-thriving ratfolk colony echoed the laughter of dwarfs. Revenge simmered in her heart as she ventured into the labyrinth, her keen eyes piercing through the thick gloom. The dwarfs, responsible for her people's demise, were oblivious to her presence. Their gold-lit eyes glowed eerily against their ale-drenched beards, reflecting the greed that had led them to drill relentlessly into the mountain heart.

Avoiding Waller, the guard dwarf whose attention was on his bottle of ale, was a small feat for Shhandra. She was a shadow among them, moving with a swift silence born of hatred. The deeper she moved into the core of the dwarven operation, the louder the grinding noise became, a mechanical symphony of destruction— the Drill Drones at work.

But before the next part of Shhandra's plan could be executed, she had to deal with the Slayers, brutal dwarven warriors, always alert and ever-ready to fight. A brief diversion, triggered by the high-pitched squeaks of her pet rat, drew their attention away. As they diverted their gaze to investigate the source of the sound, Shandra instantly seized the opportunity to strike.

First to fall was Upgrim, his downfall marked by the whizzing sound of a blaster shot that precisely took out his cybernetic monocle, leaving a gaping hole in its stead. Hela, reacting immediately, swung her weapon at Shhandra, who nimbly dodged the attack and retaliated with a flurry of rapid thrusts. Gorrtech merely stood his ground, occupying the only clear passage forward, taunting her to bring it on. And that was exactly what she did.

With uncanny agility, she accelerated, running sideways along a wall. At the crucial moment, she deftly rebounded off the wall, diverting to the other side. Gorrtech's colossal, stone-shattering swing passed through empty air, missing her by the smallest of margins. She could play it safe, but instead, Shandra decided to go straight for the kill. She managed to plunge her blade deeply into Gorrtech's neck. It almost seemed as though the dwarf's blood had a golden glint to it, a testament to the insatiable greed that corrupted his kin.

The next area was swarming with Drill Drones, their mechanical bodies bathed in the harsh artificial light as they started to charge her. There was no way she could take on all of them. But she did not have to. By the ceiling of the large chamber, she spotted the control room occupied by Hexar, the Lord Commander.

She started to climb an intricate system of stairs and platforms to reach the merciless orchestrator of the mining operations. Hexar tried to hinder her advance, by commanding the drones to demolish sections of the constructions. Parts have crumbled with a deafening roar, showering down an array of sparks. Death stared right into Shhandra's eyes, but she managed to reach the summit. There, standing on an arching bridge leading to the control room, Hexar awaited her arrival.

He recognized the intruder, the dismissed sole survivor of the recent onslaught. Aware that she had nothing left to lose, he commenced a fierce attack, striking his hammer with an increasing force with a prowess that only years of warfare could bring. Shhandra darted from one handrail to another, acrobatically evading the swings and using bridge spans as cover with no intention to counterattack.

Eventually, she found herself directly in front of him, just as he was lifting his hammer overhead. Without a second thought, he harnessed all his power to strike, intending to flatten her like an insect. But at the very brink of the blow, he caught sight of her smirk as she nimbly squeezed through the tight space between his short legs, a feat only a creature of her ratfolk lineage could perform.

The sheer force of his swing resulted in the bridge tearing asunder and crumbling away. As Shhandra clung on for dear life and began scaling her way toward the control room, Hexar plummeted downwards, his fall broken by a massive vat of ale, a staple used to maintain the dwarven mining morale. His screams of terror muffled as the sweet nectar filled his lungs.

The control panel that lay before her was responsible for directing the Drill Drones. Conventionally, they tunneled downwards, their directives focused exclusively on mineral-rich veins, dismissive of any routes that didn't promise ore. However, this was her home—she had spent her entire life here, and she knew the reason behind the seemingly exhausted walls.

She commanded a sequence of detonations targeting a section of the excavation that would typically be ignored. The drones obeyed, unknowingly digging their graves.

As the dust from the explosions settled, it all started as a subtle, almost imperceptible whisper—a soft scratching noise that seemed to come from the wall. Suddenly, cracks began to appear in the stone, glowing with an inner light that was both mesmerizing and ominous.

The cracks began to widen, splitting open with a sound that reminded Shhandra of glass shattering, revealing a hidden world behind the stone facade. Shards fell to the ground, and the whisper turned into a deafening roar as hundreds of Crystallites emerged.

As they poured forth, their razor-sharp bodies sliced through wires, machinery, and amors as if they were paper. The dazzling spectacle of destruction was both terrifying and awe-inspiring. After just a few moments, the drill drones, stripped of their mechanical innards, stood still and lifeless, while the remaining and once formidable Slayers and Guards lay defeated and motionless.

Shandra stood on top of the chaos, her heart pounding with the thrill of revenge. The dwarf empire that had taken her home and people was crumbling, and she savored every moment. She took in the sight, the glow from the crystals reflecting in her eyes. The dwarfs had been defeated, their greed punished by the very heart of the mountain they had sought to exploit. And as she walked back across the ruins, she felt a grim sense of satisfaction—vengeance had been served.
