109. the dawn of my 32nd year

Hey y'all! Here is this week's podcast~~ it's lots of me talking about turning 31, and the things that have been on my mind this last week as the ceaseless march of time continues ever onward. (Also, I say "32nd" year because technically, when you're born, you're in your first year of life, and when you turn 1, you start your second year of life, and so on and so forth ;)

Here's the artists I mentioned, with links to their Insta's:

Sending all my love your way <3 Also I'm sorry that I lost a good 15 minutes of rambling at the end there ;-; But I hope you still enjoy this episode!!!

switching over from dialectical behavioral therapy to internal family systems & somatic therapy was such a game changer for my lil neurodivergent brain!! DBT being like masking is such a good way to put it, the โ€œsolutionsโ€ from DBT just never lasted long term for me

Iโ€™m listening to the portion where you talk about Bryce Kho, Deb Lee, and wanting to draw more traditionally and Iโ€™ve been having a lot of the same thoughts this year. The two artists that influence my art the most are Loish and Gretel Lusky, and while reading their artbooks this year I saw just how much you can mix digital and traditional, which looking at their art now feels obvious but it just never occurred to me that I could maybe do a piece mostly traditional and then upload it to tweak and add some fun digital type finishes (Gretel adds a lot of chromatic aberration) OR do the line work digitally and then paint the rest traditionally after (ITS NOT CHEATING ๐Ÿฅฒ) so I hope we all play more with mixing digital and traditional to make art that feels like us! โค๏ธโค๏ธ

it helps a lot, donโ€™t get me wrong, but it is definitely not a cure-all :โ€™)

so excited to see the art you make in sweden! your sketches from last time (2 years ago?) were stunning. maybe it hits especially hard as it's winter here and seeing the height of northern hemisphere summer is surreal i always love your discussions on managing adhd. as someone who keeps meaning to get assessed it's a good reminder to not laud medication as some kind of fix-all even if i desperately want it to be
