Added 2025-03-03 20:21:26 +0000 UTCOn Friday afternoon, February 28 2025, around 3:30pm, Sophie traveled back to the moon and the stars where she belongs. She fell asleep with her head in my hand, comfy and cozy on her favorite ottoman, lying on the first crochet blanket I ever made, just for her, with me and Ares giving her little pets and telling her how much we loved her the whole while. There was crystal clear birdsong outside the window at the moment she passed, like the sky was welcoming her home.
The apartment feels so empty without her, and I can't seem to stop suddenly bursting into tears, but it brings me such joy and peace to know that she's not in pain anymore, and can finally see all the birds out the window, and she doesn't have to struggle to breathe. I get to love her for the rest of my life, and I'm so so so happy I found her back in November of 2018 and that we got to spend 6 wonderful years together.
My therapist told me last week that "there are no rules in grief", so I'm just trying to focus on getting through each day now, letting whatever feelings happen wash over me, and trying to take care of myself in little ways that I know would make Sophie proud.
I'm also really happy I got to share her with all of you -- she is such a widely loved cat. Her moon eyes have such a far reach <3 I'll get back to posting on here normally again next week. Thanks for your understanding and patience and kindness. I'm working up the capacity to post about this on Instagram in my own time, so I ask that you not share this publicly please. We'll talk soon xx
