Patreon processing errors - false flag fraud
Added 2018-08-02 19:16:03 +0000 UTCPatreon for some reason has run into some processing fraud-false-flags, so a massive amount of pledges have been declined, or rather, supporters' banks have marked Patreon as 'fraud' . If you can take a minute to update with your bank that the Patreon transactions are not fraud, it'd make me and any other creators you support happy! I don't know why this is happening, I think Patreon switched banks or pushed out some update or.. Something. Their official statement on it is here, which doesn't really say why, but my guess is something went wrong with an update: https://twitter.com/Patreon/status/1025071287020871680?s=19

Ugh... I usually let it go on automatic, but I don't have the extra this week to fix it >.< I'll get it as soon as I can.

2018-09-04 20:45:13 +0000 UTCIt's something with PayPal as I tried to pledge some people and Patreon kept refusing it. But when I did it with my card the transaction went fine.

2018-08-15 19:24:30 +0000 UTCMine says completed. Then again I think I use Paypal.
2018-08-03 07:35:48 +0000 UTCI hear switching your payment method to PayPal gets around this problem.

2018-08-03 01:30:40 +0000 UTCAs far as I can tell mine wasn't declined. Did you get payment from me this month?

2018-08-03 01:00:38 +0000 UTCVery weird.. switching should fix it, if not then Patreon should be, or I hope so, rather soon.

2018-08-02 22:21:21 +0000 UTCSo THATS what it was calling me about. Looks like I'm switching to paypal.

2018-08-02 21:38:38 +0000 UTCI had to switch to Paypal. I was wondering why it failed.

2018-08-02 21:37:02 +0000 UTCAll my pledges say that it's complete, would it be otherwise if my bank had refused them?

2018-08-02 20:34:18 +0000 UTCAll of my pledges were through PayPal. All of mine went through. I have the emails from Patreon and PayPal confirming success. I'm in the US.
OmniOtter
2018-08-02 20:17:25 +0000 UTCThey charged me 1 and then immediately refunded it, then charged the full amount. This is *incredibly* typical of a stolen credit card attack pattern because they'll charge a $1.00 just to make sure the card works before charging something real. That's probably the reason banks are flagging it as an attack.

2018-08-02 20:13:12 +0000 UTCI switched it to PayPal even while still using the same card and it worked.

2018-08-02 20:08:14 +0000 UTCMy pledge was received, so i didn't see anything wrong.

2018-08-02 20:05:07 +0000 UTCApparently this is only effecting pledges and accounts in the US, anyone from elsewhere in the world (both creator and patreon) are not being effected by this mishap. So if you live anywhere other then the US, your transactions should be going through without a problem. But don't quote me on that, just in case I'm wrong.

2018-08-02 19:51:09 +0000 UTCThis is what's happening with my pledge. I'm in the process of addressing it

2018-08-02 19:41:59 +0000 UTCEDIT: Got it fixed, as far as I can tell! This really isn't good, my debit card I use only accepts payments to US companies, no compromises allowed. If they permanently change their HQ and payment processing to the UK, I'm fucked and can't pay anymore....

2018-08-02 19:36:41 +0000 UTCYeah, i checked with my bank and i didn't see anything wrong either. There was something with a Fee for $0.05, so unless that's the issue then I'm okay too.
Antoine Davis
2018-08-02 19:31:52 +0000 UTCI don't see any issues for me, but i did update my pledge just in case. Hope everyone else is okay.

2018-08-02 19:30:52 +0000 UTCaccording to my patreon billing history, all my payments were completed, and my bank account had the money taken out although it was a dollar short than what it normally is and it just said debit purchase rather than Patreon pledge, I'm guessing that's just due to the changes they made, and since it says my payments are complete for August I'm hoping that means I'm one of the lucky ones who didn't have any issues.

2018-08-02 19:28:55 +0000 UTCAlso I've heard from one person I'm a patron of that they do not see this month's money despite that I already cleared it and reran the transaction. The transaction is still pending so I'm thinking it will show up after it's official.

2018-08-02 19:21:11 +0000 UTCI don't see anything out of the ordinary in my banking transactions. I think mine is ok at least.

2018-08-02 19:20:38 +0000 UTCThe charges on my bank said the charges were going to the UK or something instead of the usual recurring payment. This is odd as Patreon is based in California. :/

2018-08-02 19:19:52 +0000 UTCThat certainly explains the conversation I had with my bank yesterday. Took all of 2 minutes to clear up, fortunately.

2018-08-02 19:19:49 +0000 UTCI just saw on another post that appaarently Patreon moved their HQ overseas, so the transactions now show up from being from a foreign country which means a red flags to all the US credit card companies. I've called my banks, and they have said there is no issue on their end, but Patreon is still denying any and all of my payment methods :/

2018-08-02 19:19:37 +0000 UTCi just switched it over to paypal. it said my card wasnt working. but its all good now

2018-08-02 19:18:35 +0000 UTCMy monthly pledge was declined but I cleared the purchase shortly thereafter and received confirmation that it went through. I hope you get your pledges! I definitely enjoy your work.

2018-08-02 19:18:29 +0000 UTCPatreon charges came through as international for me this time, which would definitely trip a lot of banks' fraud protection.
