Chapter 520: The New Continent Assembly
Added 2025-06-22 15:10:01 +0000 UTCIf we rewind two or three years, Andreas’ fame far outshone Menielman’s.
The Empire’s First Rose!
It wasn’t just an honorary title.
But to be the youngest Saint rank in the Black Phoenix Dynasty—now that was a reputation of true splendor.
However, the identities and statuses of the two were now entirely different. Menielman had risen to become a major figure in the Farsian Navy.
Andreas, on the other hand, had become a vassal of Charlot Mecklenburg!
Indeed, it was quite remarkable.
Andreas had initially sought refuge with Charlot because of the fall of the Black Phoenix Dynasty, in a fit of defiance against his father—a temporary measure at the time. But now, were anyone to try to make Andreas leave, he would unhesitatingly draw his sword to defend his position aboard the Radiant Holy Kingdom.
When Menielman finished listening to Andreas’ explanation, she was so taken aback that words failed her. Finally, she remarked, “You haven’t returned to Fars, so you probably don’t know the current situation. Mossred has joined forces with Midaphis. They’ve raised the flag of rebellion, swearing to depose the Emperor of Bretagne. Beyond them, several nobles of the Axel family have also revolted, forming an alliance with Midaphis.”
Charlot, slightly surprised, asked, “His Majesty hasn’t suppressed them yet?”
Menielman replied, “The division of the Black Phoenix territories led to disagreements. Now, the four great empires are on the verge of war.”
“His Majesty of Bretagne and Antonio are both on the front lines, leaving them temporarily unable to suppress the rebels.”
Charlot had assumed that after the division of the Black Phoenix territories, the Old Continent would be at peace. He hadn’t expected that even a year after his departure, the Old Continent was still embroiled in war. Feeling an urgent need to return, he declared, “I must return to the Mecklenburg Duchy immediately!”
Menielman hesitated before speaking softly, “Junior, your Mecklenburg Duchy no longer exists.”
Charlot was utterly shocked and shouted, “Who has taken my Mecklenburg Duchy?”
Seeing Charlot’s stunned but not particularly enraged expression, Menielman found it odd and asked, “Junior, aren’t you angry?”
Charlot replied, “What’s there to be angry about? I’ll just lead my troops and take it back.”
“It might be a bit troublesome, but it’s nothing more than that.”
Menielman glanced at the Saint ranks behind Charlot and suddenly thought his words made a lot of sense. Who wouldn’t?
Charlot asked, “I consider myself to have some influence in all four empires! The Lionheart King and the Crown Prince both hold me in high regard. His Majesty Alfred Guillaume esteems me greatly. The strongest fighter in Byron is my mentor, and the second strongest is Andreas’ father…”
Andreas grimaced and interjected, “Don’t mention that old man!”
Charlot acknowledged with a hum and continued, “Maclaine Bretagne…”
Almost everyone couldn’t resist adding, “That’s your father-in-law.”
Charlot paused and said, “I really can’t imagine anyone daring enough to seize my Mecklenburg Duchy.”
Menielman sighed and said helplessly, “It was a group of people from the New Continent!”
Charlot immediately deflated. His connections on the Old Continent, no matter how extensive, couldn’t extend to the New Continent. These uncivilized newcomers wouldn’t recognize his reputation, leaving him truly at a loss.
Charlot asked, “My Mecklenburg Duchy had at least two Saint ranks stationed there. How could it have been taken so easily?”
Menielman replied helplessly, “Because these people returning from the New Continent are incredibly powerful! Six waves of New Continent returnees have landed so far and quickly formed the New Continent Assembly. They now boast over twenty Saint ranks and seventy to eighty thousand elite soldiers.”
“Your Mecklenburg Duchy has many coastal cities facing the Giant Whale Sea, making it the easiest landing point for the New Continent returnees. When their fleet arrived, they found other places heavily fortified, but the Mecklenburg Duchy was… relatively vulnerable. So, they brazenly launched an attack. Now, your West Wind Knight Order only holds Black Phoenix City, and it’s barely holding on.”
“After forming the New Continent Assembly, this group sent notices to all four great empires, seeking recognition. While the four empires have rebuked them, they’ve also been unable to act. Officially, the Mecklenburg Duchy belongs to Fars, but with His Majesty of Bretagne preoccupied on the front lines and with two internal rebellions, there’s no manpower left to reclaim the land.”
“The other three empires lack a legitimate reason to intervene.”
Charlot hadn’t expected the situation to be this complicated. Sighing, he suddenly noticed Sabastine’s absence and asked, “Senior, why are you alone? Where are your Saint ranks?”
Menielman gave him a pointed look and said, “Of course, they’ve been sent to Black Phoenix City. Otherwise, how do you think the two Saint ranks you left behind have managed to hold it?”
Charlot finally understood and quickly expressed his gratitude. He was only briefly puzzled about why Menielman hadn’t gone herself—was their friendship insufficient? Before he could dwell on it, Menielman remarked dryly, “I suppose you’re wondering why I didn’t go myself?”
Charlot awkwardly avoided the question, saying, “Senior must have her reasons.”
Menielman took a deep breath and said, “Junior, prepare yourself mentally.”
“Currently, Annie, May Guillaume, and Sophia Gallanord are all in Black Phoenix City!”
This explained why Menielman hadn’t gone. Charlot now realized that, if given a choice, he wouldn’t want to go to such a “terrifying” place either.
Charlot wasn’t a fool; he understood the implications perfectly!
But could he avoid going?
Losing Black Phoenix City was one thing, but with Annie there, he couldn’t delay even a minute longer. He said to Menielman, “I won’t trouble you any longer, Senior. I’ll set off for home immediately.”
Menielman hesitated for a moment before saying, “I’ll go with you!”
“The situation is on the brink of open war!”
“I can’t sit idly by.”
Charlot gave the order, and with Menielman adding three alchemical warships to his fleet, they set sail straight for Black Phoenix City.
Charlot hadn’t expected that after such a short absence, he would nearly lose everything.
He swore that he wouldn’t let these New Continent barbarians have it easy.
Weren’t they fleeing from the Evil Gods’ war?
Charlot vowed to make these New Continent barbarians understand one thing:
He, Charlot Mecklenburg, was no less terrifying than any Evil God.
At this moment, Black Phoenix City was defended by over ten Saint ranks, including the two Charlot had stationed there, reinforcements from the four great empires, Duchess Mesu herself, and the Farsian Navy’s main fleet. Even so, the war raged on fiercely...
