Chapter 503: The Serpent of Fate Can't Count

Charlot prayed five or six times, initially thinking his pleas might go unanswered. Suddenly, a formula appeared before him!

The formula was a mess—a simple string of addition and subtraction calculations, yet it managed to contain over a dozen errors.

Then, Charlot heard the familiar voice of a young boy, who said, "Help me figure this out. How much joy of fate do you currently have?"

Charlot was stunned for a moment before he understood. The Serpent of Fate wasn’t ignoring him—it simply couldn’t figure out how much joy of fate Charlot had left. Previously, Charlot owed the Serpent of Fate thirty-two portions of joy of fate. He mused silently, "Should I fudge the numbers?"

But he quickly killed that sacrilegious thought. Instead, he listed all the data meticulously, calculated everything cleanly, and even attached basic explanations of the mathematics behind each calculation in a simple tutorial format so that even an elementary school student could understand.

After completing the calculations, Charlot found that he still owed the Serpent of Fate three portions of joy of fate. Relieved, he thought to himself, "My ability to earn joy of fate isn’t too bad."

When Charlot submitted this "answer," which doubled as an introductory math tutorial, he felt a light tap on his head—a flick from the serpent's tail.

This time, the tap was gentle, transmitting the Serpent of Fate's good mood.

Following the tap, a strange power flowed into his body, extracting every remnant of evil god energy from him. With no more overload of that dark power, Charlot’s Blood Glory activated fully, and his body began to recover. Overjoyed, he couldn’t help but pray again:

"Traveler of the River of Time, knower of all mysteries, master of transcendent rituals, Lord of the Court of Fate! I am willing to offer one portion of joy of fate in exchange for protection from the corruption of evil god energy during this battle."

The Serpent of Fate's voice floated softly in response: "At least seven portions!"

Charlot gritted his teeth, ready to agree, when the boy’s voice spoke again, lazily: "For twenty portions of joy of fate, I can grant you permanent immunity from the harm caused by the power of the Radiant Holy Kingdom."

Charlot was ecstatic and immediately replied, "I agree!"

After all, he had once owed the Serpent of Fate as many as thirty-two portions of joy of fate. Although he had just paid off part of it, taking on more debt didn’t seem to matter.

Being able to secure a blessing from one of the nine True Gods, the Serpent of Fate, was sure to strengthen his relationship with the serpent.

Charlot felt a faint movement from his Blood Rhinoceros hidden within the bloody vortex. Five more cores of distinct shapes appeared. The Blood Rhinoceros had seven sockets; two were already filled—one with the sacred-grade blood core of Morendi and another dark red core belonging to Flame Evil God Anururu. Now, five more were added, bearing the powers of divine beings from the Radiant Holy Kingdom.

One shimmered with soft radiance, adorned with countless feathers—unmistakably Eumibella’s power.

Another resembled a whale, plump and adorable—the power of the Whale King.

A third depicted a human torso coiled with a snake tail—Sea Serpent Queen Posugi’s strength.

A fourth glowed with green energy, resembling a tiny crown of flowers—the force of the Ancient Gomodoro Tree Dabachiro.

The final core was an array of countless eyes. Just a few days earlier, Charlot might not have recognized it, but now he knew—it was Amon’s power.

The Blood Rhinoceros was now complete, with all seven sockets filled. Charlot immediately understood how the Serpent of Fate had resolved the problem of evil god energy "permanently." By preventing the evil god energy from invading his body, it ensured immunity. The powers of the five divine beings channeled into the Blood Rhinoceros, bypassing Charlot's body entirely. Only a True God could achieve such a feat—no mortal alchemist, no matter how skilled, could replicate it.

Charlot sighed inwardly, marveling at the Serpent of Fate's generosity, especially since it even reduced his joy of fate debt by one portion.

After a few hours of rest, Charlot recovered his strength and injuries.

Almost immediately, Eumibella said, "This household needs a man. We need Charlot Mecklenburg’s protection. Please, continue fighting for us!"

Charlot thought, "Evil gods truly lack humanity. What proper woman would send her husband to the battlefield this urgently?"

Then he recalled Juno Arthur’s suggestion. Although he knew it was reckless, he couldn’t resist saying, "Eumibella! I have something to discuss with you. Yishemierlen rules over death. To break Its body, we must neutralize Its authority. Opposing death is life. If you could… conceive a child in Yishemierlen Palace, we might have a chance to win this battle..."

Yes, sending his wife to the battlefield to have a child…

It was truly the way of an evil god.

Although Charlot knew Eumibella had no real relationship with him, he still felt like he was taking a large step toward becoming an evil god himself.

Eumibella didn’t display anger or hesitation. Instead, her face flushed, and she murmured, "How did you know? I’m already expecting..."

Charlot thought, "Amon told me." But seeing Amon’s pale face, he knew he couldn’t tell the truth. Although Amon was anything but an ordinary child—at least as sinister as Eumibella—Charlot nonchalantly said, "I naturally knew! After all, we are husband and wife."

Eumibella seemed to believe him entirely, and Amon's small face even showed a trace of gratitude. Still, Charlot doubted the boy’s capacity for human emotions—after all, trusting an evil god was folly.

Eumibella decisively declared, "I will go with you to Yishemierlen Palace!"

Charlot breathed a sigh of relief. Not only had he avoided being devoured by Eumibella, but he had also gained her support. All things considered, this was a victory.

Finally, Charlot understood why Juno Arthur once said, "She is a divine being. When have you ever heard of an evil god acting according to human logic?"

Evil gods indeed operated beyond the bounds of human reasoning.

Even now, Charlot couldn’t fathom why Eumibella would agree to such an outrageous plan.

Reaching out, Charlot grabbed the hand of this divine being. Behind her, a pair of pure white wings unfurled. Together, they ascended into the skies like a gale.

Yishemierlen, sensing danger, frantically launched barrages of spectral cannon fire. Black beams of light streaked through the air, trailing long tails. Yet, Eumibella, agile as ever, evaded each attack at the last moment, carrying Charlot safely to Yishemierlen Palace.
