Chapter 494: Breakthrough! The Fourth Labyrinth

Facing the enraged leader of the gigantic spider monsters, Charlot Mecklenburg smiled faintly. He had no real intention of learning the creature’s name anyway and closed his diary.
He let out a long sigh before heading off to the lairs of the other seven monsters.
Charlot had an overwhelming arsenal of techniques at his disposal, yet, perhaps due to personal habit or some unyielding resolve, he preferred traditional combat methods. However, when tradition couldn’t handle these monsters, using slightly extreme means wasn’t off the table.
This time, Charlot took a rather long period to accomplish his task, though the process was dull and repetitive. Using his Labyrinth Magic, he sealed all seven of the remaining monster lairs into his diary.
Although the thought of filling his diary with pages of monsters sounded thrilling, it didn’t bring Charlot much joy. A strange feeling crept into him, a sense that he was becoming something akin to an Evil God.
He still wanted to live as a normal person.
Charlot increasingly longed for a peaceful and happy life with Princess Annie. This growing desire baffled him. Why did such a seemingly simple goal feel so unattainable? Ever since they had been together, countless conflicts had forced him away from her—wars that took him from Strasbourg, the rebellion of the Emperor of Bretagne, the partitioning of the Black Phoenix Dynasty. Every time, it meant leaving Annie, his dearest love. Yet every time, it was something he couldn’t avoid.
He had to build his reputation and accumulate accomplishments to earn the right to marry Annie.
His prospective father-in-law’s campaign against the Black Phoenix had also offered him lands as spoils of war. How could he refuse?
And now, he faced the descent of an Evil God—again with no reason to decline.
After sealing the final monster lair, Charlot couldn’t help but sigh deeply, muttering to himself, “When will I finally get to stay with Annie, living safely and quietly, doing nothing but reading novels, writing a little, occasionally drafting thank-you letters to readers and opening gifts from them—like monthly votes?”
“What a joyous life that would be.”
“I’m really starting to hate fighting.”
“I believe that after this, I won’t have to fight again. I can return to Strasbourg, plead with the Emperor to grant me Annie’s hand in marriage, and then we’ll go back to the Duchy of Mecklenburg. Or perhaps to her own territory, where we can enjoy a life of peace and tranquility.”
Charlot pressed his hand to the ground, encountering no resistance this time as he transformed the underground ruin into a labyrinth with ease.
After completing the labyrinth transformation, a fleeting thought surfaced: Should this place serve as the fourth division of the Evil God’s Arena?
Charlot hesitated briefly but ultimately allowed it.
Despite the unsettling transformation of Zimourman Axel Robin into a girl, Charlot was curious about what would happen next.
As for the lack of monsters in this labyrinth?
It wasn’t a problem. The Evil Gods who co-created this arena might replenish it with their subordinates. Even if they didn’t, Charlot’s diary still held eight sealed monster lairs. Though these creatures were exceptionally strong, Charlot’s Ghost Ship was well-staffed with crew members capable of holding their own, wasn’t it?
Having gained control of this labyrinth, Charlot left the underground ruin effortlessly.
...
When Charlot returned to the surface, he found that his subordinates had established a camp on the desolate island during his month-long absence. Despite his prolonged leave, morale remained high, thanks to the Radiant Holy Kingdom, which Charlot had left anchored offshore. Many fleet members, particularly senior officers, had taken advantage of their time aboard, zealously “teaching” in a manner only they understood. This curious arrangement left no one overly concerned about Charlot’s safety, and everyone seemed unusually content with their lives.
Even the Blue Sky Tribe’s chieftain had somehow fallen into Viggo’s hands. Yet, after his conquest, the man seemed perpetually glum, lost in worries known only to himself.
Returning to a scene of tranquility, Charlot found himself irked. He immediately announced plans to continue their voyage along a new route and ordered most of the crew off the Radiant Holy Kingdom.
As the fleet circled the island, Charlot reflected with some melancholy.
This had been the hardest of the four labyrinths he’d conquered thus far, requiring nearly all his personal strength. The experience left him wondering about Agmirlas, the Labyrinth God.
Though Agmirlas appeared monstrous, the intricate designs of the labyrinths suggested the mind of a cunning, malevolent genius.
Charlot was also anxious about future challenges. What would the fifth labyrinth entail? What dangers awaited?
...
The massive fleet sailed for less than two days along the new route before re-entering the Restophe Maritime Path.
This time, their destination was an island along the route: Aegean Island.
According to records, the island was a renowned supply hub on the Restophe Maritime Path, boasting six small towns, a port, and a population nearing 100,000. It was one of the most prosperous human settlements in the Aggras Sea.
To Charlot’s astonishment, Agmirlas had extended his reach far enough to transform one of Aegean Island’s towns into a labyrinth.
According to his diary, the labyrinthized town was Tonystark Town, the smallest of Aegean Island’s settlements, with only five to six thousand residents. The town’s population, however, consisted entirely of followers of the Lamp Bearer, practicing the esoteric Kabbalah Magic School. Despite their modest numbers, Tonystark was home to several Classical Alchemy masters. Their weapons, equipment, and extraordinary artifacts were renowned not only in the Old and New Continents but uniquely so in the Aggras Sea.
The notion that a town devoted to a True God could fall to an Evil God bewildered Charlot. Unable to comprehend, he resolved to investigate personally.
...
The overwhelming presence of Charlot’s fleet—comprising three legendary warships, seven magical alchemical warships, eleven classic magical ghost warships, and over five hundred ghost ships—was enough to send shivers down the spines of Aegean Island’s residents in broad daylight.
The fleet’s sudden appearance was akin to a natural disaster. No one knew its origins, but everyone feared that when it reached the shore, the island would face annihilation.
Panic ensued as ships fled the port. Those unable to escape prepared for resistance, hid in secret shelters, or prayed fervently to the True Gods, hoping for divine intervention to drive away the terrifying fleet.
