Chapter 464: Georgia Hadrian Acquires a Giant Beast’s Tooth
Added 2025-05-25 15:04:01 +0000 UTCCharlot and his group soon lost their target.
The battle between Drusineia and Gareth had caused extensive destruction to the underground cavern passages. Although Charlot and his companions were powerful enough to smash their way back underground from the surface, discerning fresh traces amidst the ruins became increasingly difficult after repeated attempts.
Charlot grew ever more concerned about Gareth’s transformation.
Frankly, even among traditional vampires, it was unusual to permit a blood thrall to surpass their master in strength. Most would deliberately suppress their thralls' power. Yet Gareth’s strength was rapidly escalating.
The Ancient Gomodoro Tree had left behind an abundance of Wriggling Demons. The vitality of these demons was astonishing—one possessed life energy equivalent to that of a dozen ordinary humans. Gareth’s unrestrained slaughter, combined with his status as a Saint-ranked powerhouse of the twenty-second tier, made Solomon Island an ideal hunting ground for him.
Charlot, having refrained from forming a blood core, had inherently limited control over his blood thrall. As Gareth’s strength surpassed his own, Charlot found it increasingly difficult to sense this “rebellious son.”
Charlot also failed to find any signs of the Sea Serpent Queen Posugi’s tooth.
When another passage ahead collapsed, the group emerged back onto the surface. Charlot suggested, “We may have no choice but to wait for Gareth to return.”
Andreas and Argon both nodded in agreement.
It was already late at night, so Charlot decided to return to the ship for the evening, rest, and resume the search the following day.
After orienting themselves, the three began their journey back. Darkness fell completely as they walked. Charlot lit the way ahead with Flame Dragon’s Hand, while Andreas and Argon followed closely behind, vigilantly protecting him.
Suddenly, Charlot felt something moving in the shadows.
He drew Withered Rose and fired a shot.
The gunshot echoed far into the darkness, but Charlot sensed that someone had deflected his bullet. His brows furrowed slightly as he commanded in a low voice, “Show yourself.”
Four figures—three men and one woman, all Black Phoenix people—emerged from the shadows with wary expressions.
Andreas whispered, “For my sake, could we avoid a fight?”
Charlot nodded. “As long as they don’t intend to fight, I have no issue.”
With that assurance, Andreas addressed them. “Flandy, can we avoid conflict? I have no desire to fight you.”
A middle-aged man in his forties or fifties exhaled in visible relief and replied, “I would also prefer not to fight, if I can avoid it. We’re searching for supplies on this island. Although we brought provisions when we set out, we’re running low on food and water.”
Charlot’s group had packed plenty of supplies for their expedition. In contrast, the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s nobles, focused on transporting wealth rather than necessities, had devoted most of their ships’ storage to treasures, leaving little space for sustenance. Consequently, Charlot’s group had yet to face any resource shortages, but the Black Phoenix fleet was struggling.
Charlot hadn’t explicitly prohibited people from landing on the island. Georgia Hadrian, however, had issued instructions for her subordinates to avoid Charlot’s people and not to provoke his fleet.
These Black Phoenix nobles had not expected to encounter Andreas’s group by sheer coincidence.
Among the four, only Flandy, whom Andreas had addressed, was Saint-ranked. The others—his two sons and one daughter—were Transcendents but no match for Andreas alone if a conflict arose.
Andreas conversed briefly with them, even sharing the location of a water source his group had discovered along the way. As for food...
Well, for vampires, the island was abundant with "edible" options, but the same couldn’t be said for ordinary humans.
Charlot, switching to the Black Phoenix tongue, couldn’t help but ask, “Have you seen any structures on this island?”
Although Charlot was well-known, his likeness was spread through unreliable means like portraiture and word of mouth. These nobles didn’t recognize him.
Flandy, still polite, answered, “We did come across a structure. At our landing site, there’s a Sherlock-style castle!”
“Georgia Hadrian led a team to search it. They found some treasures, but nothing particularly valuable.”
Charlot, who had avoided searching the area near the Black Phoenix fleet due to Georgia Hadrian’s presence, tensed slightly at this revelation. Feigning curiosity, he asked, “What did they find?”
Flandy replied, “A few Sherlock-era decorations, some weapons, and several hundred ancient Sherlock gold coins.”
“That’s about it.”
Charlot began to relax, reassured that his target wasn’t among the items mentioned—until Flandy added, “The only unique find was a massive beast’s tooth. It’s about as long as two or three people and thicker than two people could wrap their arms around. No one recognized its origin.”
Charlot’s gaze sharpened. He was now sixty to seventy percent certain that this was the Sea Serpent Queen Posugi’s tooth, the final item he sought on this journey.
Retrieving it from Georgia Hadrian would be no simple task.
While Charlot wasn’t afraid of Georgia Hadrian—after all, Juno Arthur was traveling with his fleet—he hesitated to provoke a major naval battle over the tooth. The last battle in Black Phoenix City had cost him seven Saint-ranked allies, a loss he still mourned.
He couldn’t afford another such loss. These Saints were the foundation of his future plans.
Although the Radiant Holy Kingdom couldn’t be repaired without Posugi’s tooth, leaving the legendary warship in its current state was an acceptable compromise.
Charlot suddenly thought of the Leopardman Tumisan and mused, “If he were here, his mastery of Beast God Transformation could allow him to disguise himself as anyone and perhaps steal the tooth.”
Of course, this was merely wishful thinking. Tumisan was still in the Old Continent, following Menielman, and couldn’t suddenly appear.
After exchanging a few more cordial words, the two groups parted ways. As they left, the young Black Phoenix woman exhaled audibly, muttering with relief, “Good thing Andreas didn’t want to kill us.”
Her brothers grumbled, “Father wouldn’t have been afraid of Andreas. The three of us together wouldn’t fear those two, either.”
Flandy silenced their bickering with a firm, “Let’s go! Back to the ship.”
The increasingly eerie atmosphere of the island, especially after nightfall, had heightened the danger. Though Flandy wasn’t afraid, he worried for his children and resolved to keep this encounter a secret. Given their delicate political circumstances, discretion was vital.
