Chapter 451: If I Wish, I Too Can Become an Evil God at Any Time
Added 2025-05-19 15:01:01 +0000 UTCThe agreements signed by the Four Empires in Black Phoenix City marked the completion of a broad framework. However, countless minor details still required discussion, though these were no longer of critical importance.
First, The Emperor of Bretagne announced the withdrawal of his troops, rewarding the conquered lands of Black Phoenix to his loyal ministers. He left Count D’Artagnan in charge of tying up the remaining diplomatic affairs.
Crown Prince Brunel Asa of the Lionheart Empire invited Charlot Mecklenburg to visit Asaburg in the future. Meanwhile, Konro accompanied the Emperor of Bretagne to Strasbourg for a state visit.
The Ingrima Empire, being an island nation, had hoped to secure land on the Old Continent. However, the territories it obtained this time were not ideal, so it exchanged most of them with the other three empires for coastal cities, resources, warships, and overseas territories. Countess Aurora Soumet was left behind in Black Phoenix City to handle the diplomatic aftermath.
Byron, the empire that benefited second only to the Fars Empire in this war, saw significant gains.
Duchess Mesu secured control over Sesath, effectively dominating the northern regions. Additionally, Byron obtained several other territories adjacent to its borders, making governance more convenient.
Surprisingly, the individual Byron left to handle its affairs was none other than Juno Arthur, Charlot Mecklenburg’s teacher!
Charlot was delighted upon learning this and immediately allocated the Dolmabahçe ship for Juno Arthur's use, ensuring his mentor received the highest standard of hospitality.
With the major treaties signed, Charlot no longer concerned himself with the diplomats, trusting that their scholarly disputes wouldn’t escalate into physical confrontations. The remaining interests were too minor to cause significant discord.
Charlot shifted his focus to consolidating the Mecklenburg duchy and preparing for a voyage.
He divided his duchy into thirteen large districts, transforming the nine directly controlled counties of Black Phoenix into districts. Though administratively similar, the rebranding erased traces of Black Phoenix’s past.
The remaining lands consisted of territories under his subordinate nobles.
Charlot was surprised by his relatively good reputation in Black Phoenix. Following the Four-Nation Alliance conference, nearly a hundred nobles pledged their allegiance to him. Charlot welcomed them all, adopting a policy of appeasement by leaving their estates largely unchanged.
After finalizing his plans, he left the wise Black Dragon behind to oversee matters and began preparations for his new journey.
In the days leading up to his departure, Charlot found himself tossing and turning at night, his heart filled with unease.
Despite making countless preparations, he couldn’t shake his worry—he was about to confront an Evil God.
Eventually, he decided to seek his teacher’s counsel.
After all, vampires, descendants of Evil Gods themselves, likely wouldn’t find the subject objectionable.
When Charlot found Juno Arthur, the most powerful man in Byron smiled faintly and asked, “Are you planning to go to the Aggras Sea?”
Charlot was stunned. “How did you know, Teacher?”
Juno Arthur replied calmly, “Your blood energy is nearly overflowing. To reach such a level in so little time, you must have completed ninety-nine instances of labyrinth transformation. There’s no other possibility.”
Flattered, Charlot couldn’t resist praising, “Teacher, your insight is truly unparalleled.”
Juno Arthur smiled and said, “The Labyrinth God Agmirlas is a renowned Evil God in the New Continent. His labyrinthine sorcery is spread far and wide. You’ve never concealed your ability to transform cities into labyrinths. It’s not surprising anyone could deduce your plans.”
Charlot had suspected his secrets were no longer safe ever since he learned from Duchess Mesu that his prospective father-in-law had investigated his background.
Indeed, he had never tried to hide his labyrinth-creating abilities. People who knew about it rarely expressed surprise, as such occurrences were commonplace in the New Continent.
Suppressing his unease, Charlot asked, “Teacher, do you have any advice for me?”
Juno Arthur laughed lightly. “I’ve never personally slain an Evil God. Let me accompany you to the Aggras Sea!”
Charlot was shocked. “Teacher, can you leave Black Phoenix City?”
Juno Arthur smiled again. “Why not? The remaining work here is trivial. Besides, this war has already made Byron the greatest victor, with territories like Constantine and Sesath under our control. Let them squabble over the scraps.”
Taking a deep breath, Charlot understood Juno’s meaning. In this world, wars are ultimately battles between the strong.
No matter how many soldiers, resources, or warships Byron lost, as long as it maintained its Saint-rank powerhouses—especially its pinnacle Saint-rank guardians—it could not truly lose.
Seeing Juno’s calmness, Charlot grew curious about his teacher’s confidence in facing an Evil God. “Teacher, aren’t you afraid of the Evil Gods?”
Juno Arthur replied indifferently, “If I wanted to, I could become an Evil God at any time.”
“However, I haven’t found a safe method yet.”
“Moreover, in the Aggras Sea, you’ll only face one of Labyrinth God Agmirlas’ avatars, not his true form.”
“The Saint-rank is the upper limit permitted by this world.”
Juno added thoughtfully, “This world is peculiar. Between Saint-rank and God-rank lies a hazy boundary, governed by cold and exacting laws.”
“No one understands why the Nine True Gods, despite transcending that boundary, retained their rationality and emotions, remaining as human as ordinary people.”
“Yet countless Evil Gods fell into chaos, degeneration, and corruption. They lost not only their emotions and sanity but even the integrity of their physical forms.”
“The Blood Clan’s Three Emperors and Six Kings are anomalies among the Evil Gods, yet they too exhibit many strange traits.”
This was Charlot’s first in-depth discussion about Evil Gods, and Juno’s insights as a veteran peak Saint-rank shook him to his core, opening up vast new realms of thought.
Having Juno Arthur by his side, Charlot suddenly felt much more confident about venturing into the Aggras Sea.
Juno smiled faintly and advised, “Bring your strongest subordinates.”
“You’ll need them.”
“Also, stock up on food, water, weapons, medicines, and supplies. I’ve heard of expeditions to the Aggras Sea taking five or six years.”
“Some have been gone even longer. Many never returned, and no one knows if they’ll ever reappear after decades or centuries.”
Charlot and Juno spoke at length. Finally, with some confidence restored, Charlot decided to leave Black Dragon and Regulus behind. The Black Dragon was shrewd, and Regulus, though aged, was dependable. Both were steady characters who would avoid unnecessary conflicts. Together, the beastman and the human would balance various interests.
After two days of preparation, Charlot assembled a fleet and quietly departed from Black Phoenix City.
