Chapter 424: This Is No Misunderstanding

This adventurer team was certainly no ordinary group. Charlot Mecklenburg wasn’t sure who they were, but with two Saint-rank protectors by his side, he was confident he could bring the abductees back.

Along the way, Charlot grew increasingly certain that bringing these two along had been the right decision.

The Black Dragon had the wisdom of a strategist and a meticulous mind, while Viggo brought a wealth of experience. This Flame Combat Energy Knight bore the title of South Seraph’s greatest combatant and had nurtured Hughes, which made him quite a figure in his own right. However, the repeated setbacks suffered by the South Seraph restorationists, coupled with South Seraph itself now falling into Charlot’s hands, had deeply wounded Viggo’s morale. Nonetheless, the two worked in perfect harmony, often deducing the correct path from the faintest traces left behind.

If Charlot had been tracking them alone, he would have lost the trail long ago.

Thanks to the two Saint-ranks accompanying him, despite the adventurer team’s head start and their repeated efforts to mislead pursuers, Charlot managed to catch up to them a day and a half later.

From high above, Charlot spotted the adventurer team resting below and said to Viggo, “Put me down.”

Viggo swiftly set Charlot down on the ground.

Charlot strode purposefully toward the adventurer team, his anger reaching its boiling point.

Initially, when he had joined Antonio to confront Rembrandt Mossred, Charlot had thought the campaign would be tough but ultimately a guaranteed victory. Antonio was immensely powerful, and he had brought seven Saint-ranked subordinates. However, Mossred’s brother, Gareth, had summoned the Flame Evil God Anururu, turning the battle into a drawn-out ordeal. Both the Knights of Bretagne and Charlot’s own West Wind Knight Order had suffered grievous losses, leaving Charlot already in a foul mood.

Since his transmigration, Charlot had never suffered such a setback.

He wasn’t certain if this adventurer team’s initial actions were a misunderstanding. However, during the pursuit, their use of various disguises and false trails indicated they were well aware of the identities of the Axel sisters. Their behavior made it clear the abduction had been deliberate.

Having recently ascended to the seventeenth rank through the boon of the Goddess of Insight, Charlot now stood among the higher echelons of the Transcendent. Back at Gorgias University, when he had first met Clair Bretagne and Ebner Soumet, they had been at this very rank.

Now, with killing intent surging in his heart, his Blood Glory emanated a chillingly malevolent aura that spanned dozens of steps, weaving a sinister and oppressive will around him.

Blood Glory, unlike combat energy, did not form tangible phenomena. However, it could exude a sinister will capable of evoking terror, despair, trembling, submission, exhaustion, and loss of control in its targets.

The adventurer team was alerted to Charlot’s approach. A young man sprang up and shouted, “We have pursuers after all!”

Reaching into the Mirror of Power, Charlot retrieved his favored weapon, the vampiric Knight’s Lance Berserker Blade. He preferred this lance because it was his only vampiric weapon in the form of a lance.

Just as Charlot was about to strike, one of the Axel sisters ran out, arms spread wide, shouting, “Don’t attack! This is a misunderstanding!”

Charlot was momentarily startled but quickly struck with his lance, sending the shouting Axel sister flying toward Viggo. “Keep her out of my way,” he barked.

Renee Axel let out a sharp scream as she was flung through the air, utterly shocked by Charlot’s refusal to listen. Moments later, she landed in a wide, firm embrace. Struggling to break free, she heard a deep, charming male voice softly whisper in her ear, “Don’t struggle.”

“When Charlot is angry, no one can stop him.”

Renee cried out, “My sister and I left voluntarily! We weren’t kidnapped as you think!”

Though Viggo wished to hear the young lady’s explanation, he knew Charlot had no interest in listening. He could only reply, “There’s no point explaining. Charlot won’t hear it.”

Renee fought to escape, but as a non-Transcendent, she couldn’t break free from the grip of a Saint-rank. In desperation, she asked, “Will Charlot capture Marin?”

Viggo hesitated before deciding to tell the truth. “No.”

Renee sighed in relief, but then Viggo added, “He’ll kill him for sure.”

Renee began struggling anew.

Charlot’s aura locked onto the young man who had shouted earlier. Charlot fully intended to kill him. No matter the excuse, taking the Axel sisters away from his protection and leaving him unable to report back to Prince Alfrey Axel in Strasbourg was an unforgivable offense.

In Charlot’s mind, this was no misunderstanding.

It was nothing short of a deadly insult.

Sarah Axel suddenly stepped out and pleaded softly, “Charlot Mecklenburg, please hear me out!”

Charlot replied calmly, “Dear Miss Axel, you probably don’t realize how much trouble this has caused me.”

“But please understand one thing—no one in this world can trouble me this much.”

“Not long ago, an Evil God tried, and now it’s surely regretting it.”

Although Charlot hadn’t been the one to strike down the Evil God, he had participated from start to finish, so his words were spoken with confidence.

Marin gave a faint smile and pulled Sarah behind him. “Since this gentleman isn’t willing to listen, we won’t explain.”

“Mr. Mecklenburg, let’s settle this with a duel.”

"If I win, please allow me to take Sarah away!"

Charlot Mecklenburg sneered coldly and said, "If I lose, I'll have those two Saint-rank knights take action and wipe out your entire adventuring team. Not a single one of you will be left alive."

Marin's face twisted in anger as he shouted, "We bear no grudge against each other! Why are you so ruthless?"

Charlot scoffed, "No grudge? That's your naive assumption. After all the trouble you've caused me, you think this doesn't count as a grudge? What the hell do you call this?"

Marin couldn't help but respond, "I had no choice!"

Without further words, Charlot transformed into a whirlwind, his spear, Berserker Blade, exuding an earth-shattering force as it smashed toward the young man’s head.

Trying to take someone from Charlot Mecklenburg, right in front of him, without provocation? How could that not be seen as a grudge? What kind of excuse was "no choice"?

This guy’s worldview is completely warped!

Charlot's moves were devoid of any flashy techniques. He relied solely on sheer force and speed, hammering down viciously.

Marin let out a sharp whistle as he drew his Vampiric Rapier and gracefully dodged to the side. Yet, to his horror, he discovered something terrifying—his prized speed couldn't shake off Charlot. The spear lacked intricate finesse, but its sheer velocity was staggering.

...

Charlot's Supremacy

Charlot had leveraged the blessings of the Lady of the Black Moon, condensing three additional Agility Runes onto himself. His Swiftstep Technique, initially at x5, was further amplified by the Red Viper (x6) and the Blue Viper (x7). This cumulative effect brought his agility to an unimaginable x12—an unattainable level for anyone below Saint rank.

Marin’s face turned ashen as he desperately swung his blade, but it cut through nothing but air. The unstoppable blow from Berserker Blade descended with a thunderous crash, smashing Marin’s head into pulp and obliterating half of his body.

What remained of Marin's lower half crumpled lifelessly to the ground. With a single strike, Charlot had ended him.

Walking decisively toward Sarah Axel, Charlot declared, "Step aside. It's someone else's turn now."

Sarah's face turned pale, tears welling in her eyes as she cried out, "Why did you kill him? I left of my own free will!"

Charlot replied coldly, "Apologies, but even voluntary actions are unacceptable."

"You may leave with anyone, anytime—but never with just anyone, in my presence."

"I have to answer to Prince Alfrey Axel!"

"Why should I take the blame for your foolish actions?"

"Have you ever considered how much difficulty your actions would bring me?"

"When you put me in a difficult position, did you think about who I am—Charlot Mecklenburg, a high-rank Transcendent, the Captain of the West Wind Knight Order, commanding seven Saint-rank knights? I am not someone you should dare to offend!"

Sarah stumbled back, stunned by his fury. As a young woman of the Axel family, she had always lived with the belief that others should accommodate her, indulge her, and solve her problems. The notion that her actions might cause others trouble never seemed significant—why should it matter if Charlot faced reproach on her behalf?

But now, Sarah finally realized that Charlot Mecklenburg was not someone to be crossed.

Charlot showed no mercy to the adventuring team. If they dared to take someone from him, they should be prepared to face the consequences.

The team watched in horror as Charlot killed Marin. Panic erupted—some begged for mercy, others tried to flee, while a few resisted with all their might...

Yet the outcome was the same for everyone.

In mere seconds, Charlot annihilated the entire adventuring team.

...

Aftermath

This adventuring team had only Marin as a high-rank Transcendent. Two others possessed minor extraordinary abilities, while the rest were ordinary individuals—experienced fighters at best. Against someone of Charlot’s caliber, their experience was meaningless.

After eliminating the group, Charlot said calmly, "Escort the two young ladies back."

Renee Axel couldn’t contain her outrage and cursed, "So much for being the protagonist of some love story! My sister and Marin truly loved each other. Why couldn’t you just let them be?"

"You and Annie are no different!"

"Marin, like you, is just an ordinary man. His status made it impossible for him to marry my sister. He had no choice but to take such desperate measures."

Having vented his rage through violence, Charlot now felt slightly more composed. He also understood the root of his fury—letting Marin take the two Axel sisters posed a potential threat to Annie. That was something he could never allow.

Facing Renee’s accusations, he replied evenly, "Yes, Annie and I are mismatched in status. But through my own efforts, I’ve gradually earned an identity worthy of her."

"And Marin? What is he, to think he deserves the same?"
