Cultivation Begins from Infancy - Chapter 395

Volume 3 - Chapter 102: Supporting Hell - Part 3

Smiling until the end is the true mark of a genius.

"He hasn’t come out yet; he’s definitely dead." Li Rumeng slightly pursed her lips as she spoke.

Wang Zhenping was startled. Dead?

The crisp voice of the young girl sent a jolt through the hearts of Wang Zhendong and the others, who were still anxiously waiting.

Li Hao’s prolonged absence clearly indicated two possibilities: either he was entangled with the Underworld-level River of Death, unable to find the exit, or he was attempting to break through. Regardless, either situation was a near-death scenario.

Wang Zhendong clenched his fists. That youth, with the bearing of a saint-in-the-making, whose bright future seemed destined to inspire awe and reverence, had stayed behind to protect them. He had secured their path to survival but plunged himself into mortal peril.

Between them, there had been no significant ties in the past.

Wang Yongzhi and the others exchanged glances, each seeing the same complex and pained expression in the other’s eyes.

It felt as though a simmering anger was trapped in their chests, with no outlet to release it.

Earlier, they had eagerly joined in the excitement, but in the end, they had become burdens, dragging down that Divine General—a young Divine General at that!

If His Majesty found out, he would likely be furious to the point of spitting blood. The thought of his potential wrath was unimaginable.

Their hearts were filled with guilt and self-reproach. They felt like punching themselves. How could they, in their old age, have been so reckless and complacent?

"How did he die?"

Wang Zhenping snapped back to his senses and couldn’t help but ask his grandson and granddaughter.

Although he didn’t have a favorable impression of the youth, he didn’t hate him enough to wish for his death. After all, that young man was a fierce warrior of the human race.

"He insisted on showing off. He could’ve left with us, but no—he just had to grandstand."

Jealousy flashed in Li Jiangying’s eyes as he muttered in a low voice.

In the Divine General Mansion, ever since the youth’s cultivation was revealed, he had become the center of attention, and no one spoke of them anymore.

His brilliance overshadowed all his peers. Even Li Qianfeng, who had apprenticed under the Boundless Buddhist Lord, was reduced to a mere backdrop. After being defeated, he became even more insignificant.

Although Li Jiangying’s voice was low, the cavernous silence inside the mountain and the strong cultivation of the Wang family members made it sound like it echoed in their ears.

Wang Zhendong suddenly turned his head, his gaze as sharp as a hawk, and fixed it on Li Jiangying.

"What did you say? Say it again!"

Li Jiangying froze, not expecting his second granduncle to react so strongly.

Before he could speak again, Wang Zhendong stepped forward with a loud crack and slapped him across the face.

The dry but powerful hand landed mercilessly, breaking two of Li Jiangying’s teeth and sending him tumbling to the ground.

"Brother!"

Li Rumeng cried out in alarm and rushed forward to help him up.

Wang Zhenping was also stunned. He hurriedly stepped forward to intervene, angrily shouting, "Second Brother, what are you doing?"

"Fourth Brother, didn’t you hear what that brat just said?!"

Wang Zhendong roared, his voice reverberating through the mountain. He looked like an enraged lion, glaring at his younger brother.

Wang Zhenping was taken aback. "What he said might’ve been a bit harsh, but he’s just a kid. Besides, it’s only words..."

"Fourth Brother!!"

Wang Zhendong’s hair stood on end as he yelled, "Have you truly grown senile, or are you just stupid?"

Wang Zhenping’s expression changed slightly. He hadn’t expected his second brother to be so furious.

"‘Only words’? That was a Divine General, someone on par with our ancestors. What is he, to mock someone like that?!"

"If not for Haotian Divine General, we would all be dead—including those two! They’ve just escaped danger, and this is how they repay their savior?"

Wang Zhendong’s face flushed with anger, his eyes shifting from fury to razor-sharp focus.

Wang Zhenping’s face turned dark, but he couldn’t argue back. Moreover, he had always harbored a subtle fear of his second brother.

"Completely undisciplined, utterly shameless!"

Wang Zhendong looked coldly at the sobbing Li Rumeng on the ground, his face icy and his eyes filled with disgust.

"Earlier, you asked me to look after them and let them gain some experience with me at the Underworld-level River of Death. I agreed. The resources of two Divine General Mansions have been wasted on them, and this is what they’ve become?!"

"Your daughter is married into another family. Her children are part of the Li family. From now on, their offspring have no place in the Wang family!"

His declaration was effectively a ban, causing Wang Zhenping’s expression to change drastically. He hadn’t expected his second brother to take such a hard stance.

Li Rumeng, who was crying on the ground, was terrified into silence. Her face turned pale as she tearfully looked at her grandfather for help.

Li Jiangying, clutching his face as he got up, was equally frightened. When he looked up, he saw the once-friendly elders of the Wang family now watching him coldly. His heart pounded in fear, and his chest tightened with dread.

"Take them away!"

Wang Zhendong waved his hand.

Wang Yongzhi nodded slightly and immediately gestured for someone to escort the siblings out.

Soon, they were dragged out of the mountain hall.

"Grandfather..."

The siblings’ calls grew fainter as they were taken away.

Wang Zhenping’s expression was grim, but he remained silent.

Wang Zhendong shot him a cold glance. He had no kind words for his fourth brother, whose character he had long understood. Ignoring him, he turned to Wang Yongzhi and said, "Deploy two teams of death guards and have them investigate what’s happening inside."

"Understood."

Wang Yongzhi nodded and immediately issued the orders.

However, along with the death guards, a scout arrived with an urgent military report.

The military report was handed to Wang Yongzhi. He frowned slightly. What kind of military report could be so urgent? Could it be that the Underworld-level River of Death had emerged, causing significant casualties already?

As he opened the report, his frown deepened, and his expression changed.

"What is it?"

"It’s military intelligence..."

Wang Yongzhi raised his head, his face showing shock. "The demon forces have attacked the city. All the top demonic factions from beyond the borders are gathered outside the imperial capital, currently besieging the Imperial City!"

"What?"

Wang Zhendong and the others were stunned at this news.

A demon assault on the city—and not just any city, but the Imperial City?!

The Wang family had managed the River of Death for many years, and while their control over military intelligence had waned somewhat, they were well aware that under normal circumstances, demons wouldn’t dare approach the Imperial City.

After all, the Imperial City was home to Great Yu’s most powerful figure.

That individual, seated in the Qiandao Palace, exerted a deterrent force that covered all nineteen provinces. Even the occurrence of demonic disasters along the borders made the demon factions wary of provoking the real person behind that legendary sword. Attacking the Imperial City was nearly unthinkable.

Those who lived within the city walls might not even know what demons looked like as long as they never ventured out.

"This is a request for aid directly from the Imperial City," Wang Yongzhi said, turning to Wang Zhendong.
