Chapter 331: The Mecklenburg School

Charlot knew he was not yet a match for Duchess Mesu, but he did not fear the grand duchess either.

Charlot said calmly, “There’s an old saying from the New Continent: ‘A gentleman’s revenge is never too late, even after ten years!’”

“Duchess Mesu may hold great power, and her family may be vast, but ten years from now, she may no longer stand above me, Charlot Mecklenburg.”

His words were firm and powerful, resonating like a declaration. Sophia Gallanord blushed slightly. Ever since Charlot had saved her, the image of the hero she had fantasized about since childhood had merged with him.

That phrase from Earth was strikingly profound, not just in this world but even on Earth itself, carrying an undeniable weight and sharpness.

Sophia thought to herself, “No wonder he can write such captivating novels; it turns out he’s exactly like the protagonists in those stories.”

“He embodies the noblest virtues, the most resolute character, and the broadest chest…”

“Too bad Annie Bretagne got to him first!”

“She’s just a fourth-year at Gorgias University—why did she come all the way to snatch away our senior at Sheffield University?”

“This is intolerable!”

“Hmm, that phrase is also from Mr. Mecklenburg’s novels. So philosophical, so flavorful.”

“In all of Strasbourg, no man can compare to Charlot Mecklenburg. The rest are nothing but clay chickens and pottery dogs.”

Yes, those words! They all came from Charlot’s novels.

His unique vocabulary and precise descriptions had sparked a new literary trend, now dubbed the “Mecklenburg School.” Many aspiring writers were imitating these works brought from Earth.

...

Frederica couldn’t help but ask, “Charlot! What’s your current rank now?”

Charlot shrugged and replied, “Yesterday… or maybe the day before, I just advanced to High Stage!”

“Thirteenth rank, early High Stage Transcendent!”

The leopardwoman had intended to tease him about exaggerating, but she was stunned by his rapid progress. She exclaimed, “When I tried to assassinate you, you were just a Low Stage… no, maybe second or third rank!”

Charlot responded with ease, “Who doesn’t improve over time?”

Frederica shouted, “Not even a year! Maybe just over a year, but still, it’s terrifying.”

“Don’t you face bottlenecks in your cultivation? Even without them, your speed is unbelievable.”

“Have you faced an evil god directly?”

“No, no, no! Even evil gods aren’t this strong.”

“You must have confronted one of the Nine Ancestral Evils head-on!”

Charlot chuckled awkwardly and said, “Don’t joke. Summoning an evil god is a crime punishable by burning at the stake.”

Frederica spread her hands and said, “There’s no other plausible explanation that fits.”

Charlot rolled his eyes and said, “I was just keeping a low profile at university.”

Frederica retorted, “Keeping a low profile in university? Are you insane?”

Charlot replied, “Aren’t you here to ask me for help? Is this your attitude?”

Frederica immediately fell silent but exchanged a meaningful glance with Sophia Gallanord, signaling, “I’m willing to help you.”

Sophia was initially surprised but then overjoyed. Frederica wasn’t a competitor but an ally—this was truly unexpected.

Frederica wasn’t particularly close to Annie Bretagne. If anything, she was slightly more familiar with Dolores Soumet, but as a God Pact Holder, Dolores was forever bound to solitude and uninterested in marriage, leaving Frederica indifferent to who Charlot chose to be with.

She was merely looking for some amusement to relieve her recent stress.

If Charlot succumbed to temptation and his romantic entanglements fell apart, it had nothing to do with her.

But if he passed the test…

At the very least, she would gain Sophia Gallanord’s friendship.

In short, the leopardwoman had learned a few tricks from Dolores.

...

Charlot, meanwhile, was contemplating how to deal with Alence Cook. He had mistakenly overestimated the man’s abilities, but this was understandable. In their first encounter, Charlot had only managed to slap Alence’s face a few times, unable to break through his combat energy shield, which had left a strong impression.

In their second confrontation, Charlot had issued a duel invitation, which Alence avoided, choosing to endure the humiliation rather than recklessly accept. This only made Charlot think more highly of him.

This man not only held a critical position in the Administrative Bureau but also dared to spread rumors and slander Sophia Gallanord. His ability to act decisively and retreat strategically gave him the air of a mid-tier “boss.”

“Alence Cook isn’t much in terms of combat. With Blood Rose or another weapon, I can likely deal with him. But his cunning nature is troublesome. One moment, he’s arrogantly taunting me with two women by his side; the next, he’s calm and calculating, lying in wait…”

“A mercurial personality and unfathomable mind…”

“Truly, a worthy opponent.”

Charlot had no idea that Alence’s sudden emotional downturn during a lunch break had been caused by none other than his beloved Annie Bretagne.

As for Charlot’s assumption that Alence dared to provoke Sophia Gallanord, ignoring even the daughter of the Minister of War…

It was a bold misunderstanding.

In reality, Alence wouldn’t dare to offend Sophia Gallanord. Her reputation as the Rose of Strasbourg was well-deserved, marking her as one of the most formidable individuals under twenty in the Old Continent.

...

Sophia exchanged a few glances with Frederica, confirming her intentions. She finally asked, “Frederica, we’ve been focusing on my issues, but you must have a significant reason to seek out Charlot. I shouldn’t monopolize Mr. Mecklenburg’s time and delay your business.”

Frederica didn’t hesitate and explained the plight of the leopard tribes.

She wasn’t worried about Sophia leaking the information. After all, the leopard tribes had their own ways of ensuring safety.

Sophia, however, frowned at the complexity of the issue. The Fars Empire’s disdain for beastfolk had only grown since the siege of Strasbourg. Once the war ended, it was certain the empire would launch a campaign to eradicate the southern beastfolk tribes.

She whispered, “This will be difficult to handle.”

Charlot interjected, “Actually, it’s not that hard.”

“Beastfolk are still people. While they’re different from humans, if those differences can be eliminated, they can integrate into human society.”

“Millions of years ago, who’s to say humans weren’t just a bunch of monkeys?”

Sophia and Frederica thought he was joking, and Charlot had no intention of explaining further. Both matters, he believed, were within his ability to resolve.

Returning to his host duties, Charlot quickly instructed Mrs. Nancy to prepare some tea and sweets.
