Chapter 292: A Simple Little Spell
Added 2025-02-28 16:02:01 +0000 UTCMenielman only selected a portion of the strongest sailors. After all, she was part of the Imperial Navy of the Fars Empire and had no interest in notorious pirates, preferring instead to recruit her crew from among civilians.
Once Menielman finished her selection, Charlot Mecklenburg began his own "rapid recruitment."
In just three days, he completed a task that would typically take three Saint-rank individuals over ten continuous days of effort.
Not only Menielman, Tumisan, and Sabastine, but even the seasoned High Priest Auguslatin and Ban Lamorak, who were already familiar with Charlot, couldn’t help but be astonished.
Charlot recruited everyone under the banner of the West Wind Knight Order. He also taught the Beast God Transformation—specifically the Redback Bear Warrior transformation—to a select group of "loyal and reliable" individuals.
Tumisan had once remarked: "The Beast God Transformation is a very simple little spell."
After delving into the technique, Charlot discovered that this spell was indeed a "very simple little spell."
Other transcendent paths could be pursued continuously because most extraordinary techniques originated from deities or, in rare cases, from great human philosophers such as Protagoras, or the creators of classical alchemy like Kabbalah or Hermes, who made significant contributions to the extraordinary field.
However, Tumisan was just an ordinary Saint-rank individual. The Beast God Transformation he created, despite its grandiose name, was merely a spell capable of advancing someone to the first level of transcendence.
For instance, a human could spend years painstakingly training in the Redback Bear transformation, finally mastering it and becoming a Redback Bear. This would allow them to ascend to the first level of transcendence.
But if they then trained in the Leopard transformation, spending years again to master it and becoming a Leopard, they would still only be at the first level of transcendence.
Even if they practiced multiple other Beast transformations, no matter how many forms they mastered, they would remain stuck at the first level.
Transforming from a beast back into a human...
In some rare cases, they might not even reach the first level of transcendence.
For this reason, the Beast God Transformation was rarely pursued in depth, even among the Orc Assassin Alliance. To these orc assassins, what value was there in turning into another orc? Transforming into a human might be somewhat useful for infiltrating human nations under a new identity.
But Charlot Mecklenburg turned this "little spell" into a symbol of unity. Regardless of one’s background or origin, joining the West Wind Knight Order and practicing the Redback Bear Warrior transformation became a sign of loyalty and brotherhood.
It was akin to how, on Earth, people from diverse places might feel a connection simply because they studied together. Even decades after graduation, they could share a sense of camaraderie. Similarly, those who served in the military together forged bonds of unwavering friendship across vast distances.
Especially as the number of individuals practicing the Redback Bear Warrior transformation grew, some naturally summarized their experiences. Charlot consolidated these insights and openly shared them, making the cultivation of this secret technique more accessible and straightforward.
Early on, a few of the slaves who had followed Charlot in Saint Michael City and demonstrated decent talent were already capable of transforming a hand into a bear claw or growing patches of bear fur on their faces.
Even Tumisan hadn’t anticipated Charlot using the technique he had created in this way.
Though the transformation didn’t result in a full bear-man form and only slightly enhanced physical strength, it was enough to improve the physiques of the diverse soldiers under Charlot’s command.
Anyone who showed even modest progress in their training would naturally feel a stronger sense of belonging.
It was like issuing a small membership badge; many would accept their identity as part of an organization based on this subtle psychological effect.
Menielman had always regarded Charlot as a younger alumnus who sought refuge with her. Though he had grown rapidly, she adhered to a saying from Earth: "When you've encountered too many brilliant people in your youth, it becomes harder to form friendships later in life."
She never felt that Charlot was truly "exceptional."
Could he possibly surpass that man?
Zimourman Axel Robin wasn’t just extraordinary—he dominated an entire era.
He was destined to leave his name in the annals of history.
Count Victory Champagne Lamorak, with his overwhelming authority and undefeated record, wasn’t remembered merely for being the world’s greatest spearman or for his numerous breathtaking victories. His most notable label was that he was once considered Zimourman’s equal.
But when Menielman looked at Charlot, it was as though she was observing another species altogether.
Charlot wasn’t Zimourman, but he wasn’t simply "not Zimourman."
It was like comparing someone who was unmatched in martial arts—undefeated across the land—to someone who wrote poetry.
Rapid transcendence was one thing; after all, Zimourman was a Saint at a young age.
But Charlot could write novels, something Zimourman never did.
While Zimourman used brute strength to become a Pirate King, Charlot lacked such physical might yet effortlessly looted Saint Michael Island.
Even Charlot himself wasn’t aware that his status had subtly shifted in the eyes of the four Saint-rank individuals around him.
Menielman had come to recognize him. Tumisan now held him in respect. Sabastine had simply become Charlot’s "friend."
As for High Priest Auguslatin? Charlot was determined to keep their interactions at arm’s length.
After over half a month, Menielman finally reorganized her fleet. When she once again proposed attacking Saint Michael Island, there was no dissent within her ranks.
Previously, no one believed she could take Saint Michael Island.
Now, no one doubted that the Empire’s First Rose could ascend her loyal Mount Michael.
Menielman spent several days holding military meetings to discuss the strategy for conquering Saint Michael Island. During these meetings, Charlot Mecklenburg remained silent.
Tumisan approached him, saying he had an important task to entrust to him.
Menielman sought Charlot’s assistance as an infiltrator.
Charlot didn’t think much of it; after all, infiltration wasn’t particularly challenging.
As he pondered, Charlot began to consider when he might "return in glory." According to Emperor Alfred Guillaume’s orders, he was supposed to be resisting the Black Phoenix Dynasty’s forces in the South Seraph region. He had been away for quite some time; it was probably time to head back.
When Tumisan saw that multiple discussions had failed to yield an effective plan, he couldn’t help but ask: "Charlot, if you were to devise a military strategy, how would you conquer Saint Michael?"
Charlot hadn’t expected anyone to ask for his opinion.
After all, this was Menielman’s fleet. While he might call her "senior," he was a civil servant in the army, not the navy, nor was he under Menielman’s command. He had no desire to overstep his bounds.
An outsider meddling in others’ affairs was always aggravating.
Besides, having spent so much time on Saint Michael Island, Charlot knew its strengths and weaknesses well. He didn’t think it was particularly difficult to take the island.
So, he humbly replied: "Personally, I think the simplest method would work best."
"I don’t know anything about complex military strategies!"
