Chapter 286: The Rebellion of Saint Michael City

Saint Michael Island falling into Menielman Soumet’s hands would mean Charlot Mecklenburg would gain a little. If it fell into Count Lamorak's hands, Ban Lamorak would certainly take a sizable portion. As for Charlot…

Well, he might just end up with an empty city.

In any case, Charlot Mecklenburg would undoubtedly devour all the wealth the Golden Rams Fleet had accumulated over the years, not leaving behind even a drachma or centime for outsiders. Judging by himself, Charlot believed Count Lamorak to be the same kind of person.

Otherwise, how else could the Count of Victory Champagne afford all that luxurious Fars champagne for his parties?

Charlot Mecklenburg, even as a twenty-fifth-grade fifth-level Assistant Clerk, couldn’t get his hands on a single bottle. Yet Count Lamorak seemed to have so much champagne he could bathe in it.

Hmm, perhaps as a Bibliographic Officer of Red Dragon Palace, a Literary Advisor of Obsidian Spring Palace, and the third-grade twentieth-rank civil servant of Saint Michael City, Charlot Mecklenburg might manage to secure a few bottles.

Upon his return, Charlot easily slew the pirate leader nicknamed "Deep Sea Squid," capturing all his subordinates.

Naturally, his forces doubled overnight...

And even then, he had surplus resources!

The name "Bear King Kainan" began to grow renowned within the Golden Rams Fleet.

However, despite his growing manpower, Charlot still failed to attract the attention of the fleet's leadership. For one, his personal strength was deemed "low"—he was merely a first-rank Redback Bear Warrior. Secondly, he had no ship. After all, in a pirate fleet, only those with ships could be called pirates. Without one, you were nothing more than a lackey.

No ship meant no raids, no plundering. No plundering meant no income. And no income meant no future.

For ordinary pirates, securing a ship would be their primary goal. But Charlot, not being a genuine pirate, had no interest in acquiring one—especially if it wasn’t some ancient magical battleship or alchemic warship.

About seven or eight days after Charlot’s return, the Golden Rams Fleet was shaken by a major event.

Herolf, the leader of the Golden Rams, grew suspicious when his flagship, the Queen Bee, failed to return. Using a golden ring to summon it, he received no response even after an entire day. Alarmed, he dispatched a fleet to Britain to investigate.

Normally, it would take days for the Queen Bee to return. Herolf waited patiently, but his temper got the better of him, and he vented his frustration by killing dozens of female slaves.

Charlot and his men witnessed corpses being dragged out daily from the highest levels of Saint Michael City and dumped into the sea.

Ban Lamorak muttered several times that, were it not for Herolf being Saint rank, he would have stormed Saint Michael Mountain to duel him.

While Charlot managed to restrain himself, he accelerated his preparations.

Unfortunately, he was not skilled in these matters. He failed to locate the Golden Rams' deputy leader or make contact with the rebellion forces. Nor did he uncover information about the imprisoned three Saint ranks. As for sending messages out, he managed to do so a few times.

Using his Mind Channel, Charlot transmitted intelligence to Cappadocia several times, though he received no reply from Menielman Soumet due to the channel's one-way nature.

The atmosphere in Saint Michael City grew increasingly oppressive. Over ten days later, a pirate ship returning from Britain brought devastating news. The Queen Bee had been sighted on the Seventais River.

According to reports, it was said to have been captured by Charlot Mecklenburg, a renowned Fars author. To curry favor with Emperor Alfred Guillaume XV and his widowed aunt, Princess May Guillaume, Charlot used a strategy called the “Great Anaconda” to seize the ancient magical battleship and present it to Her Highness.

The princess, eager to show off her prize, had the Queen Bee docked on the Seventais River for the entire population of Britain to admire.

As for why Herolf’s summons failed, the pirates speculated that the Saint ranks of the Ingrima Empire had suppressed the flagship.

Upon hearing this news, Herolf was furious. Leading his fleet personally, he departed from Saint Michael Island.

Charlot immediately sent out this information and decided to act.

With Herolf away, Saint Michael City was without a Saint-rank guardian.

In the past, Charlot would have been powerless in such a situation.

After all, Saint Michael City still had five deputy captains and ten generals. While not all of them stayed on the island—some were out raiding—at least six or seven remained. These high-ranking pirates were either mid- or high-ranked Transcendents. While Charlot might not fear any one of them individually, taking on so many at once was beyond his abilities.

But that was the past.

Now, Charlot had High Priest Auguslatin, a Saint rank.

He also had Ban Lamorak, the youngest Lionheart in Britain. Though newly advanced to high rank, Charlot believed Ban could defeat five ordinary high ranks—or at least three, even by modest estimates.

Five hours after Herolf set sail, Charlot initiated his rebellion.

Charlot was no professional in such matters. He didn’t even bother with a pre-battle speech. Instead, he simply gathered all his subordinates and silently stormed the second level of Saint Michael City.

Among the Golden Rams Fleet’s five deputy captains, only one remained on the island. Two were out raiding, and the other two had accompanied Herolf to Britain. Of the ten generals, only three were present; the others were either raiding or with Herolf. It was the most vulnerable moment in Saint Michael City’s history.

The Golden Rams Fleet, which had dominated the Aggras Sea for years, often colluding with the Ingrima Empire's royal navy, had never anticipated an internal rebellion.

When Charlot confronted the lone deputy captain on the island, the man remained composed and sneered, “I’ve heard of you, Bear King Kainan. If you want to make a name for yourself in the fleet, work hard for another few decades, and you might have a chance. But to rebel? Do you have any idea how powerful the Golden Rams are?”

“Ignorance isn’t a sin. Arrogance is. You overestimate yourself.”

Charlot, unfazed by the mid-rank Transcendent pirate, had only one thing to say: “High Priest Auguslatin! Attack!”

The High Priest, unaccustomed to such brusque commands, offered no protest. Light radiated from his body as he unleashed seven consecutive Radiant Arrows.

High Priest Auguslatin was no knight. He was an experienced mage. Although Radiant Arrows were among the more common spells of the Radiant Lord's faith, their effectiveness depended on the caster.

Hearing Charlot’s command, the deputy captain initially thought it was a bluff. But when a Saint-rank Radiant High Priest materialized behind Charlot, glowing with divine might, the captain’s eyes nearly popped out of his head.

He had no chance against the Saint’s “furious strike.”
